If you won the Lotto, would you tell your friends/family?

It's no secret that many lotto winners actually end up in a WORSE position after they win millions than they were before.

Simply put, all your friends/family are your new BEST FRIENDS.

My co-worker says that if won, he would not even tell his wife. This way, he is generous and dishes out his money slowly, and everyone thinks, wow what a great guy. Other than everyone knowing his is a millionaire and expecting a chunk.

I think I would keep it anonymous too.

It would be a hard secret to keep, seeing that your name is in the paper usually. I'd tell close family and friends. I wouldn't be giving away money though, but I would pay off my parent's house, retire them, etc.

Immediate family, of course. Other extended family and friends, it depends. Between 1 - 5 million, I would keep quiet. Over, it would be hard to hide that you're a multi-millionaire.

Lotto allows anonymous winners. You can opt out of having your name released!

In that case I'd keep it very quiet. My wife and I are far from rich but we're still constantly being hit up for money, if people ever suspected we won the lottery I'd have to change my name and move to another state.

Immediate family yes.

About 10 or so friends I would tell or help out. Basically the people that helped me out when I had no money. I would buy them a house and a car.

I'd have to tell them, because they'd ask where all the money came from when I gave it to them. I'd put enough in savings to live off, have one good shopping spree buying everything I wanted...the rest goes to friends/family/charity.

Sure. I don't have any friends or family that would even think of asking me for money. That's not to say that I wouldn't help out my and my husband's parents, but nobody I know would try to get anything out of me. Strangers can just fvck off.

I've already got it planned out. :D

Certain members of my immediate family would get a percentage of the cash and other family members and friends might receive some really nice Christmas gifts like a car or a Rolex or a check for a few G's.

And as far as any newly found friends/family members they would get back whatever they gave me and nothing more. You haven't talked to me in 10 years and now you come with your hand out? Homie don't play that. *bap*

I would tell anyone that asks or is a friend. No reason not to. They can ask for money all day, but they wont get it. If they aren't my friends at that point, good riddance.

I would keep it a secret. And despite what others say, it's quit easy. They only put you on TV and the front page if it's a record jackpot. Yes, even the small winners get their names published somewhere but the average joe is not going around looking for each week's winner just in case they know them.

I would tell my family. BUT i would hate to tell my in-laws. since they are poor and have no trouble takeing advantage of my wife if they can. I really wish my wife would tell them to ah heck off.

I guess it would be hard to keep it a secrete. They would wonder where the new car's and the big screen TV ETC came from. Not to mention my wife would tell them.

I would not. My family is godawful at managing money. I would hold it, be responsible, and dish it out my discretion.

i only think its rigtht to help out the rest of your family if you won the lottery, otherwise your "uncle" everyone keeps bailing out of jail will probably kill you over it...

IMHO i wouold make sure my mother has nothing to worry about for the rest of her life, my father, i would rub it in and maybe give him a half of a ripped $100 bill (we dont get along at all). bro's sis's and anyone esle in my immediate family would be all set, younger members of my family would all have college paid for right off the bat as well.

Then i would wreck porsche's to avoid boredom.

oh this is wrong. IF your co-worker won the money there is NO way he could keep it from his wife. Half the winnings are hers. I don't think the lotto would even allow him to keep it from her.

If I win the latest 90 million lotto. I'd give a million each to my two brothers, my parents, and 4 of my best friends.

yeah there was also one of a women who won it and divorced her husband who was dying. She refused to give him half. Again that did not end up well for her either heh.

When married any winnings such as lotto are split.
