If you won the lottery, what is the best way to turn in your ticket?

Imagine you held the winning ticket to your state's lottery. Say a really big prize, $100M.

In CA, the commissions's office is in Sacramento. Say you lived on the opposite end of the state. What is the best way for you to turn in your ticket?

1. Drive there - That could take 5-10 hours. You could get into an accident. Get mugged or carjacked along the way.
2. Send it via USPS. How much would insurance on $100M be? Probably more than you could afford. Also, if you were the mailman delivering mail to The Lottery Office, wouldn't you be tempted to steal it?
3. Fly or take a train there - Many similar risks as #1. What if the plane or train crashes?

So what is the "correct" answer? There has to be a guaranteed safe way as there have been plenty of lottery iwnners.

Give it to me, I'll turn it in for you, I promise :p

The best way would probably be to fly. Very safe means of transportation.

Nothing in life is "guaranteed"

Why does there have to be a guaranteed safe way? What are the odds of getting carjacked, mugged, or having the plane crash while you're on your way to turn in the ticket? I'd say fairly long unless you decided to advertise the fact that you had the winning ticket.

You make it sound like humanity and the gods will immediately attempt to strike you down upon winning a lottery. :D

well, first go to a copy machine w/ winning ticket and your drivers license.. copy both.. on same sheet of paper.. so you have a copy that you won... and then drive, fly, jump outta a plane... take you pick, but get there, so they could hand you the "really big" check

I would bet you could just call their office and tell them you won, read them the barcode info on it to validate and they'd come to you.

Errr.... take a plane or train. If indeed an accident does happen, you won't regret not having the money since you would be dead. And as for muggers and such, I don't think they'll care to ask if the ticket is a winner, just toss him your credit cards & cash and be done with it.

I was driving on I-5 coming back from LA a couple of weeks ago when we passed a huge, huge convoy of army hummers, trucks, and other vehicles with one plain gas-tanker lookalike thing in the middle of it all. They were going like 40 mph and taking up a mile of I-5.

I'd say that's a pretty safe way to get to Sac.

P.S. I wish I knew wtf was in that tanker

Geez, none of you guys are creative. On the way there, you MUST blow your previous life savings. So first, set fire to your house (you won't be needing it) take your money out of the bank, go to a car dealership, put that money down on a hummer, and save a few hundred to pick up a really nice hooker on the way so she can give you a hummer too (that way you'll be nice and relaxed for driving). If you keep her around, you have her big airbags to keep you safe incase you get it a wreck. But if you get in a wreck, you'll probably just run them the hell over anyhow and go on your merry way...

Oh yeah, get a hooker that knows kung fu JUST IN CASE!!

the body gaurds would steal it, especially since no one would about it. Then they would dump your body in the desert.

Too many chances that something will go wrong......just throw the ticket
away and figure you've saved yourself a lot of problems.......
