Why in the world would you give your SO half the money? Just because you're doing a good deed doesn't mean she will too [by staying with you].

I would keep the money and spend on my SO but handing over my money like an idiot is not my thing.

Because if you live together and have pledged to share 50/50 it would be the right thing to do.Besides, if you give them half right up front and they stick around anyway you know you chose well.

If you gave them half the prize and they stayed it would be great! If you gave them half the prize and they immediately dumped you then you wouldn't be spending years of your life with somebody who was only with you for the cash and gifts you doled out.Either way you come out a winner.
