If you were to stop working in IT, what would you do?

Inspired by this thread.

I often times wonder what else would I do if I didn't work in IT and was really thinking about this yesterday and couldn't think of anything that I'd be better at than IT.

So...

What would you (want to) do if you stopped working in IT?

I've wondered the same thing myself. I can't think of any other viable career moves other than just staying in IT.

Accounting. Of course if I wanted to be successful I'd have to go back to school though. I'm only obtaining a minor in it now.

I also have thought of this. I don't want to work IT all my life but I don't know what I want to do yet.

This is a good question.. really haven't thought about this one too much.. I would definately choose something that is enjoyable

Law Enforcement. I turned down a job offer for the Oregon State Police to go with the IT job I currently have (pay was much better). If I ever get bored with this though, I will not hesitate to go back with the state police, or even a local police department.

I know, I've been in IT for 10 years now and just feel like I'm at a crossroads in my life where I'm feeling like I need to figure out what else there is to do but have f'ing clue what that answer is since this is what I've done for so long now and the only career path I've ever really had.

Sea Pirate. But in order for that to work, I would have to be attacked by other pirates. I couldn't bring myself to do harm to others who had no desire to do harm to me.

Working in the corperate world for past year and a half since I graduated. I guess I still have another 8 years to go....

I'll probably put my BS degree into use and get into Telecommunications, maybe work for one of the big telecom companies like Verizon or Time Warner Cable.

and one i asked recently...

anyway, i hate my IT job. i don't know what i'd do and i've been trying to figure that out. the only other experience i have is lawn mowing and some kitchen experience.

going back to school isn't really an option now and probably won't be for at least 3 or 4 more years. by then i'll be 30.

I've always wanted to write fiction books but i can't seem to be able to do it. i can get the ideas for it down but i can't get anything past that.

i dabble in photography but i'm not very good at that.

i don't know what else in IT i could do. life sucks

I'm getting close to my 10 year anny in IT, and I don't plan on getting a whole lot closer. I've been trying like mad to pay off all of my debts (outside of my mortgage) so I can soon be debt-free. Once that happens, I should not only be debt-free, but have a nice chunk of change in the bank...and then I'm done with corporate life forever. Right now the plan is to become a luthier / master woodworker with the goal of eventually opening up my own shop. Which will be attached to my house.

This will happen (or a variation of sorts). By November of next year, we will have the cars and my student loan paid off, and that's it. It's on.

(as an aside, I love how I've been out of college for 8 years and am still paying back that stupid student loan)

It would have to be something I loved, so I'd probably hope to get a job with the DNR or run my own outfitting company. I've always thought Whitefish, MT would be a great area for me to live.

I need to really figure out something else to learn or try at least since I can't picture myself doing IT until I'm old and gray.

I like working with my hands and am good at it but don't know what to try, wood working does sound enjoyable and I live in an area where I think it would do well but I'd have a lot of learning to do before I could ever make a living out of something like that, not sure though and kind of tough to make a career change at the midst of my wedding (2 months away) but I know my fiancee will support my choice if I do decide to do something like that as long as it's not to far fetched.
