If you were to make a total/partial conversion of XCOM: Enemy Unknown...

In case you haven't played Quake 1 with the partial / total conversions available that amateurs have made (such as "Simpsons Quake"), where characters/enemies are replaced with alternate models and sound effects, and a shambler sounds like Barney (the constantly drunk Simpsons character), this is the sort of thing I mean when I ask the question in the topic.

The first thing that came to mind was when using the Arc Thrower, I'd have a Hot Fuzz reference, where the Arc Thrower person says "Playtime's over!" and hit the alien with a cuddly monkey.

The second idea I had is from the final episode of Harvey Birdman, when a unit becomes panicked, I would have the Birdgirl quote where she says "ohmygodohmygodohmygod" really fast without stopping.

I would add multiple bases, base defense, multiple skyrangers, multiple-interceptor battles, more UFO intercepts, larger squads, four-square superheavy SHIVs, alien units to match, fewer bugs, and underwater/LEO missions with a corresponding tech tree for each environment.

But that's me.

Basically, you're remaking the original XCom. Isn't someone already working on that?

I'd get rid of the flight combat altogether; watch bars and hit buff buttons is retardedly stupid compared the ground combat.

I'd offer a marathon setting, ala Civilization. A game mode where you might have plenty of time to build a full base and multiple ranked squads, but have to respond to more abductions/events with an increase in difficulty.

I'd definately work out a engine/system that visually showed you the chance to hit. So many hit numbers seem stupid with what I am looking at on my screen, and I'd try to match the math to the visuals to what the player sees.

I'd create real Chrysalids... not those pansy little face hugger things they decided to introduce.

Yeah, Firaxis. They had it about half done when they released it.

Serious answer: yes. But every version I've tried CTD'd like a mofo.

Wow... that game is really needs a LOT of work! I didn't think that it would be possible to have graphics worse than the original XCOM, but they somehow pulled it off :)
