If you were to go outside on a clear night where you live...

I can, but it's getting worse and worse with all the construction around here...stupid street light pollution. I feel like shooting the lights with a bb gun sometimes.

don't like the dark . its overrated. go camping sometime and go outside at night to pee, and can't see squat.. it sucks. esp when theres tall tree cover and its more or less pitch black

The milky way is our galaxy. We are a part of it, but are located near the edge. When you 'see' the Milky Way, you are actually just looking towards the center of our galaxy and seeing the greater density of stars along that line of sight.

Yeah easily... clearest sky is at my girlfriends, on a clear night the sky is really beautiful.

EDIT: We live in a city with a population of about 14,000 - 15,000 and she lives about 10 minutes from town 😉

No, I'm in bright, smoggy southwest Houston. Not a chance. Drive 30 minutes southwest, though, and then you've got something. 😛

I'll have a nice view once we get moved into our new house (just over a month to go). Until then, we've got lots of light pollution bouncing off the crap in the air and making everything fuzzy at best.

I live 10 mins outside NYC and last year during "THE GREAT BLACKOUT!!"" <insery sinister music here> the sky was completly different. I saw this thing in the sky that i had never seen before. It was like a giant ball that appeard to be glowing almost as if it were reflecting light.

Um, we are in the milky way galaxy, but it's called that because of the milky way. I'm not sure whether I can see it or not.

Yea, but probably not much longer. They just bu8ilt a big walmart & home depot a few miles away that has really degraded the seeing. 🙁
