First, call 1-866-BEST-BUY and tell me who answers. What's that, it answers, "Thank you for calling Best Buy Canada customer service"? Egads! Now, try speaking to a representative and ask if bulbs are covered for, say, Samsung DLP TVs.

Second, I don't give a flying fsck what store either of you work at. As I said, for my DLP TV purchase, the extended warranty doesn't cover the bulb, and it's pretty obvious that I'm correct in that claim.

It's obvious that the Canadian Big Screen TV Health Care System is superior to ours here in the states, where a shocking 40% of all appliances remain tragically uncovered. :brokenheart:

Best Buy has different PSPs (service plans) in different parts of the country, and I'm sure that would also apply to Best Buy in Canada. Some parts of the country have plans that aren't available elsewhere, and some places get plans that cover different things. Making an ass out of yourself will only result in you getting WTFPWNED even bigger.

And any service plan/extended warranty is obviously made available so the company will make money, no company will offer one at a price that would have them lose. They are VERY high margin items, so as others pointed out the law of averages will be in your favor, though you can and sometimes will get screwed. But if you know how to make one work for you, then you will never lose.

Awwwwwww. :eek: <------ Looks down at shoes, spots a shiny Canadian quarter, bends over to pick it up, farts loudly but unintentionally, remains bent over briefly pondering the law of unintended consequences, is tragically hit by a truck . . . farts once more before bleeding to death on the ashphalt.

BestBuy.com PSP
Bulb Replacement
We provide a one time bulb replacement on qualifying products:

* DLP Projection TVs
* LCD Projection TVs
* Computers
* Projectors
* Home Theater Front Projectors
So if you lived in Canada, could you purchase from BB.com and use this version of the PSP? Also, besides honesty, what prevents someone from deliberately breaking his/her bulb the day before the PSP expires in order to get a new one? I see great potential for abuse here.

*sigh* Again, do I care what Best Buy in Vancouver, Chicago or Mexico City does? I swear, reading comprehension is a true rarity these days.

Nah. I have a DLP TV with a bulb, and the extended warranty doesn't cover the bulb - vastly diminishing the usefulness of the warranty. Used my credit card to double the manufacturer warranty instead.
What part of this is complicated? Is it the part where I answer the question that was asked? The part where I provide evidence that what I said originally is correct? WTFPWNEDage sure isn't what it used to be.

Our Toshiba 50" DLP was $1,600 and I chose option 3:

OPTION #3 - TV Invoice price under $2500, plus bulb/lamp warranty. This combo package covers the TV itself for an additional 3 YEARS after the manufacturer's warranty, as well as the bulb for 3 years. The bulb/lamp will be replaced up to 2 times in those 3 years. The pricetag on this combo is $210.00.

I just purchased this warranty for my Samsung 46in DLP as well. Great deal they have there. I was contemplating wether to get a warranty or not, and I ended up getting it. I figure if I didnt buy the warranty, my tv will break, but if I do purchase it, I wont have any problems. The TV gets a fair ammount of usage so I most likley will need a bulb replacement in 4 years anway, Id end up spending around $200 no matter what.

Though you may live in canada, and maybe your canadian BB doesn't cover bulb replacement, the OP seems to live in AZ, so your ranting about how a PSP doesn't cover bulbs and everyone who says otherwise is a moron, is useless and incorrect information for the OP in making his decision.

I never questioned whether your BB covers your bulb, though when you say things like:

I can only hope that your "tard" ass has indeed bought a PSP thinking that it'll cover your bulb change. In any case, STFU.

You are completely and 100% incorrect, and you are making an ass out of yourself for being SO confident that you are right, when in fact Snakexor and SLCentral were correct in saying for most of the US, the BB PSP does in fact cover a bulb replacement. Though this whole arguement is asinine, because the OP has already been shown what appears to be a better valued extended warranty via a 3rd party for his TV.

I've bought quite a few items and tossed in the extra scratch for extended warranty.

4 VCR's - yes at like $15 each
open box A/V receiver - yes at $40 or so
dvd player - no
CD head unit - yes at $40 for a free cleaning and adjust every year
2 car amps - yes at $20 each - one amp had to be replaced. for free.
2 subs - no

One of the VCRs would not release the FF or RW using the remote. It went back and they fixed it. Cleanings for them every year of course. I've spent less for the warranties than what it would have cost to replace the items that were not working.

YMMV.

I would probably get the warranty on a hjigh dollar item in conjunction with an online coupon to offset it some.

costco just has an EXTREMELY liberal return policy, combined with great customer service. they will practically exchange an item for any reason. my brother worked there for a few years while in college and he actually had someone return a pair of 2 year old used shoes for another pair because the customer claimed they wore out too fast...

in retrospect, no.

i bought a pair of $600 athena floorstanding speakers about 3 years ago and my service plans goes until 2009. i'm very meticulous about my toys so probability wise, extended warranties are a waste of money for me. the most dangerous thing i do with them is moving, which i've done 5+ times without problems. granted, tv's are more fragile than speakers. if you're careful with your stuff and it has a decent manufacturer's warranty, i would pass.

I don't know why you're jumping down Yllus' back. All he did was say, "no, I wouldn't buy the warranty" and then proved how his bulb was not covered. Then someone started some childish name calling, and suddenly everyone yells at him?

I shouldn't be surprised really, considering this is ATOT.

FWIW, my stuff never breaks. I never buy extended warranties unless it says XBox 360 on it.
