If you were rich, would you work?

I know people on both ends of the spectrum.

You look at Bill Gates, who could retire and buy and island to live on. Instead, he works everyday, travels a lot, and is very dilligent.

I know someone who hit the lotto, took a lump sum payment, and doesn't work at all. He just sits at home and does nothing. He plays hockey for recreation and drives a new Hummer.

So, my question to you is, lets say you had a lot of money. So much you could live VERY comfortably without working. Would you still find somewhere to work or form your own business? Would you not work at all and just sit around the house and live off of your wealth?

If you would work, what would you do? Would you stay with what you are good at or would you do something different? Would you go to college or back to school for training?

If you wouldn't work, what would you do to spend your time? Pick up new hobbies? Maybe take up a new sport?

Just curious. :)

If I were rich, I would still work, but I would probably do consulting in the IT field. I am good at it and I love technology. I may even go back to college and get my Masters or PHD.

I have Master's Degree...so I'd probably use it as income while pursing a Doctorate Degree.

i would quitmy current job, spend a lot of time doing stuff i've always wanted to do or places i wanted to go to. once i had that done, i'd probably do some kind of work so i'm not totally bored. some easy and light and where i could set my own hours or only work when i wanted to.

I would still work. I would work in a field that I enjoy however, by either consulting or opening my own business.

I'd go to film school and learn enough to become a Hollywood director/producer (I could fund my own movies if need be).

Probably go back to school for my PhD - then I'd still work. But I could be alot pickier about my projects!

I'd open up a pottery/art studio downtown and offer free classes to young adults/children as well as free studio use for adults.

It would preferably be located in a 2+ story building so that I could live upstairs.

In my current situation I should be able to "retire" by 32-34, at latest. I couldn't stop working and live lavishly for the rest of my life, so I'll instead choose to pursue other career interests. I will then completely retire by 45, hopefully at the point where my wife and I (not married yet) can travel.

For me I would be a high school tennis coach in a poor school district. Get a few youth in college so they can do better for their family and their future. I would fund the school van to get to events, strings, tennis racquest, and of course the clothing.

I'd travel around the world and settle down and relax in one place for awhile. When I get bored, I'd simply move to a new location. There is no way in bloody hell that I would work if it was not absolutely necessary.

If I was rich, I would have more leverage to start my own business or firm. I could not imagine sitting around for the rest of myself spending money and doing nothing productive. I would start my own company, employ full time workers, let the company grow, and work a part time schedule.

I would definately do some work. Maybe continue schooling, and extensive investments. If I had enough money I would also set up funds for various causes and demand a say in where the money goes.

I would buy a Dodge Viper and use it as a taxi, charging enough to cover the petrol costs only, until I got tired of driving round all day. Or got stabbed and killed because it's a 2 seater and the passenger would be right next to me :(

I'd do one/all/some of the following:

1. Work PT at a Golf Course. Just in the Pro Shop is fine, something to kill the time.
2. Start my own Business. Either a Hawaiian food restaraunt or a Import Tuner shop (I NEED NAAWWWSSS!!!!) or maybe a computer shop.
3. Go back to school. I only took some college, never really anything meaningful. Would love to be the only kid in my family with a degree.

But I would def either have a PT job or a Business to keep myself busy.
