I have a 1680x1050 monitor and my x1900xt doesn't give me the performance I want in oblivion and GRAW, etc

Should I go with x1900 crossfire or wait for the next cards to come in? Basically it's not that I have loads of money lying around but I can afford it. However, I don't want to make a bad timing decision.

How long till a single card gets me x1900 crossfire performance? The 7950 GX2 doesn't count for me...

580+ will not be same a crossfire but it will be faster then x1900xtx it will be out for the end of the summer or early fall. Next gen cards the G80 and r600 will come out late this year or early next they should be faster then Crossfire.

If you can?t wait I would go with the crossfire now.
 
The specs of the next gen cards aren't clear enough to predict if the r600 will equal 2 x1900xt's in crossfire. My guess is it will not equal them in speed, unless it clocks at 850+ mhz, which I doubt it will. But if you plan on upgrading to Vista and DX10 early next year, you may just wait for next gen cards anyways. Games like Oblivion are more demanding than a typical 3D game, so just turn down some settings, like using 2xAA instead of 4xAA, etc. OTOH, if you don't plan to upgrade the video card until the refresh of r600 arrives, 2nd half of 2007, then x1900 CF would be a good upgrade until then.
 
You've already got the motherboard... Why not use that second PCIe slot...? IMO, Dual card setups aren't really a good value, but a high end gaming rig is a luxury item anyway, so if you feel comfortable with spending top dollar for the top setup and realize that it isn't an investment, you won't be disappointed.
