I'd do it. But don't put the extra $2-3k in the mortgage, because in the end you'll be paying much more (maybe closer to $8k) after interest. I'd just make a bigger down payment.

Finance much?

I've been using broadband for about 4 years now. I can honestly say I would go nuts if I didn't have it, so yes, I would consider it heavily in looking for a home.

On dslreports.com a guy looking for a house in Pittsburgh restricted his search to places that already had FIOS available. I wouldn't have given it much of a thought, but apparently a lot of people do.

Does this assume that without it you can't get standard Cable TV/Highspeed or normal DSL? If so, yes it would affect me. I woudln't live somewhere that had no broadband access at all.

We moved last June. There is no DSL or cable here. I thought I could make it with dial up but I can only connect at 26K.
The satellite system is being installed Sunday.

Ok, so far this little poll has produced a 75% desired effect for what would be a targeted-marketing result. 45 voted and only 9 said no. Interesting.

That was actually #2 in the checklist of building a house. I made sure I was under 11000 FT from a telco CO so I could get 3 meg DSL 🙂
