Of course I don't know where all these plants are, but I do know that Toyota has moved alot of it's plant here
to the states thus bring along alot of jobs.
So the question is.

Suppose the japanese car is made in America,
And SUPPOSE the American car (much like many other things nowadays) is outsourced
to a 3rd world country.

Which would be the more patriotic purchase?

Find out who employs more Americans, Toyota, or American Car Manufacturers. . .

Make sure you check the car out, I would not get a 1st year of a new line model from anyone . . .

I'd venture to guess the Japanese car MADE in America. My Isuzu Rodeo was made in a plant in Lafayette Indiana (though I bought it not for any patriotic/nonpatriotic reasons)... I guess I contributed in a way. ;)

I wouldn't ever rationalize buying a car based on whether the purchase was "patriotic" or not. Whoever has the superior product has my money.

I bought a Ford and on the sticker it said something like 65% was made in Mexico. I don't remember. And it was assembled there too.

if it were based on being patriotic and free, I'd buy American.

but on a limited budget, a cheap japanese car tends to be better than a cheap american car.

Thats good advice. Let other people be the beta testers.

Frankly, I don't understand why after they've found a design that works that they scrap it and redesign so often. When you buy a car based on the model name because you liked the last one you had, you're often shooting yourself in the foot because they've completely redesigned the thing a couple years after you bought it.

I dont believe that one car made today has 100% american, japanese, or other parts. So it's really just a toss up.

And if you think you're being 'patriotic' by buying american cars... give it a rest, you'd be more patriotic buying a flag.

I don't buy J. A. Pan Corp Junk cars. I stick with an American made vehicle when I am in the market for a new car.

Exactly. I buy for quality/price ratio.

Name me one domestic sedan/coupe (save for the Viper, Vette and CTS-V) and I will show you a superior Japanese car. Domestic cars are junk.

Did you bother looking at his Screen Name?

His crappy opinion is most likely set in stone.

For under 40k - Cadillac CTS w/3.6l.
For under 50k - Cadillac SRX w/v8 and AWD.
For over 50k - Cadillac STS fully loaded :).

All 3 are made in the same factory in Michigan.

Also, if you're buying new, you'd be a fool to go domestic for under 30k. In addition, like you and a few others have said, many Japanese cars are made in America.(Honda has almost their entire line built in America, including several Acuras. Toyota has almost all of the Toyota line built in America; however, Lexus is mostly built in Japan.

But seriously, to actually answer the question, I'd buy a japanese car anyway. No matter waht the patriotism is.

Since I was going with at least one car that is technically not out, I'm surprised you didn't say the 2005 RL ;)

Also, can't the RX330 go into the under 40k category?

Anyways, I hold by my choices, although the LS430 has one sexy interior. :)

I'd rather support an American autoworker under a Japanese name, than a Mexican autoworker and some fat American corporate execs.

Although, I just buy whatever is reliable and cheap when it comes right down to it.

(1) The RL is bunk. THIS and THIS own the RL.

(2) Good luck finding an AWD RX330 for under $40k

(3) Definitely sexy :D
