If you were a mayor of a city, why would you want the Olympics in your city ?

Usually leads to some pretty massive infrastructure improvements that the city itself doesn't pay for.

So much money is brought into a city that host.

Tons of new construction, huge influx of willing to spend visitors dumping money into the city, etc..

Tons of revenue is not always a good thing.

Ever tried to drive in Atlanta?

Quality of life > state revenue.

Of course, if Bubba and Jamal could decide to do just a smidge of planning and light timing, things would be a LOT better.

I'm interested to see what happens in 2010. I'm on the fence about the Olympics coming here; I like the attention coming to the city and the chance to see some top notch competition, but I do not like the amount of money sunk into getting ready for them.

1) Infrastructure investment
2) Economic stimulus from the event
3) free advertising for your City
4) longterm Economic stimulus as a result of #3

Hell no, I hate people. I'd raise taxes so high that nobody would stick around.

If it happens anything like ATL, the money will come back 10x.

Plus the new influx of people who just stay there, which generates more income. The only thing to worry about is if they dont plan it properly.

We'll see. I kind of like the city as it is now and I don't really want a massive influx of people from elsewhere, but what can you do.
