Inspired by a discussion on Reddit where I'm currently getting flamed. OP stated that he's been teaching his children to distrust police officers, and if they were to get lost, to seek out parents with children for help over a cop. I disagreed, stating that a police officer would be far safer than a random stranger on the street. Even if the cop was lazy and simply turned the child over to CPS or a social worker, that's better the spending the next 20 years in a lunatic's backyard.

What say parents of ATOT?

Would be hard pressed to identify a teacher in public, unless accompanied by their class.

I guess it depends on where you are and what time it is. At least in my neighborhood, you're more likely to walk next to a school than you are to see a cop.

Not being six years old and having never been in a situation where I was lost and noticed a police officer, I have no idea how I am expected to answer this.

Good luck finding a uniformed police officer these days outside of a donut shop. Neighborhoods were a lot safer when we were willing to pay for beat cops.

depends on when. When I was a kid, I was returned to my parents by a complete stranger. now, I am not so sure.

There's never a cop around when you're looking for one. And I work in schools where plenty of kids aren't all that keen of finding the police, even at a young age.

cops, firemen, bus drivers, postal workers, starbucks barista

i'd let my son know that he should probably approach any of the above if he is lost. luckily there are SBUXs on every corner.

When you're little cops can be trusted. That starts to shift as you get older, and kids need to be educated appropriately.
