If you went missing today, how long before people would notice?

So I was thinking today, if I went missing it would be a long time before anyone called the cops. I moved 800km from home for university (on a different island no less) and have only a handful of friends down here, most of whom I speak to rarely. I talk to my parents on the phone, but not regularly. Sometimes I'll speak to them once a week, sometimes not for a month or more. I have lots of acquaintances in classes but no one who would think much of it if I stopped turning up. I'm picking that if I went missing today (assuming I had spoken to my parents relatively recently) it would be 6 - 8 weeks before anyone noticed. That's kind of depressing :Q

So how long before people would notice you were gone?

Someone would notice that I am not where I should be within hours. As to whether they would think I am missing or not... no idea.

I wonder that too. I have 4 other roommates, but I don't see them too often. I don't think they would call around for at least a week. We are all accustomed to each other leaving a week at a time. I work odd hours, so sometimes I don't see them for a week anyways even when I am at home. I do phone my parents about once or twice a week. But they probably wouldn't call the police for at least two weeks. Again, they are used to my busy schedule and sometimes I can't return their calls for a few days or a week.

EDIT: as for my friends... they know I work a lot so are accustomed to me not being around for long stretches at a time. I try to return their phone calls the day of or a day later (it is acceptable to call them at odd hours in the day).

I think the first people to really notice would be work. If I didn't show up for a few days in a row (without notice) they would suspect something is amiss. I have no idea if they would act on it or not.

Well, I have a live in girlfriend and I work, so those two sources would know I was gone rightaway.

Sad to say, I don't have any really close friends, and I'm not close with my family, so if I was on my own without my gf it could be weeks before anyone notices.

My girlfriend would wonder where I was within the next 3 or 4 hours.

I am taking a vacation day from work Friday, and then I'm off over the weekend, so My co-workers and boss would not notice until Monday.

If I went missing right now: within 30 minutes as my gf is on her way over.

If I went missing after 11pm: within 17 hours as I rarely speak to my friends/family before 3 or 4 pm (work would notice I'm not there, but they wouldn't call the police or anyone besides me). My gf would freak out if I didn't answer her phone calls for a day.

Unmarried, no kids. People at work would notice the next time I was due to come in, family might take a few days.

Sadly work would notice first

Friends and family would be 5~7 days as family is all in different cities/states and we talk once or twice weekly. Friends are spread out and I do different things with different groups of people.

Very quickly, I contact my wife periodically throughout the day..and always let her know when I expect to be home. Plus work is always on my ass 🙂
