A washing machine drain cycle gone wrong... totally wrong.

Sewer backup.

I got lucky for catching that. If I had left it be and took my shower tomorrow or used the toilet a few times even tonight it would of been MUCH worse.

Notice the brown goo coming out of the sump pit. That, is a baconator, or perhaps last week's nachos. Yeah.... and notice the stack looks like it's about to burst. Water leaking out.

Managed to fix it with the plunger. Had someone called out for help and he checked it out and suggested I get it checked further by someone with a camera / fish line as there must be something in there blocking.

I did a "burn in test" on my plumbing system. Full bath tub with steaming hot water to possibly help break up any debris still left (now I have zero hot water left lol) both kitchen sinks filled to the top, the bathroom sink + flush the toilet. All let that drain at once. Yeah, I'm kinda brave. But after doing these tests in stages I was confident the issue was resolved.

It went through like a dream, and hopefully also helped clear the main stack. I will be throwing away all the crappy towels and face cloths I got which produce way too much lint in the washer. I still think that's probably the culpit. I need to work on clearing the sump pit now but that one is a bit tricky, can't really stick a plunger in there due to how it's made.

The poopy smell is gone thankfully. I just sprayed benefect all over the affected area. That's stuff reconstruction companies use to cleanup after sewer backup - the ones that are not caught on top and end up flooding the whole basement.

My next step is to get someone to cam out the whole line to see if there may be an issue, and also fix the sump drain. I'm thinking there may be lot of crap (literally) stuck in the P trap. The weeping tiles drain out in there so it has to be a good drain. Not so much an issue in winter but in summer it does nothing but rain here. Think next time I head to Canadian Tire or Home Depot I'll buy a sump pump, probably not a bad idea to have one...

Happened at my old place. Thankfully, the basement was rented out to somebody else so we didn't have to deal with it.

Aren't you the one with the spider hell pit? Man, remind me never to buy your house.

I have an overflow pipe go into my back yard just incase i get a back-up and I did. Didn't know it was overflowing until it backed up from inside the house and there was 2 days worth of shit that poured all over my back yard. I had to clean it up. I threw up a couple times while scooping up all that stuff.
