Black ice is the great equalizer, it renders all tires equally useless, except for perhaps aggressive metal-studded or chained tires, which are not permitted in many states.
I've driven this stretch of I-96 many dozens of times and it can become treacherous in the winter due to driving crosswinds 'polishing' the hard-packed snow into a super smooth layer of ice. I had to drive 20-30MPH for nearly 40 miles one time because it was so absurdly slippery along intermittent areas of the road. I watched two dozen people spin out in front, behind, and across the median from me who were driving too fast. You couldn't reliably discern or predict where the ice was until your car began to slide or spin off the road. There were stretches with several cars in the median or ditch feet apart from each other, where they hit the same patch of ice and spun out.
My whole body was sore the next day, but particularly my hands, because I was so damned tensed up for the entire 40 miles. Nightmare.
