If you see change on the street, do you pick it up?

The american monetary system has no denomination of coin whose value is high enough for me to risk touching sewer water while acquiring it.

When I was younger, some friends and I took a trip to the beach.
We used super-glue to attach about $1.50 to the sidewalk in front of our porch.
Then we sat back and had a few beers and had a good chuckle.
Everyone was trying to pick up the change. The next morning it was gone, someone was finally able to pry the quarters off the sidewalk.

Not sure why anyone would be worried about the cleanliness. Money on the ground is no dirtier than money from someone's hands.

quarters only if people are around. otherwise any non-pennies.

that reminds me of a joke...

"why do mexican's ride low-riders? cause it's easier to pick up change on the ground."

wow that was racist.

that's probably not true, btw. There are $20 and $10 gold coins that are worth considerably more than the face value, just to name two examples. While these coins have been decomissioned, they are still "within" the American monetary system, and still can be used wherever money is accepted, technically.

I pick up ANY kind of money I see as long as it's not nailed down.....
but I've never seen anything bigger than a dime laying on the ground
in my life!

I once found two twenties lying in the street about 100' from an ATM. Although I knew someone must have lost it. I pocketed the cash. 😱

My friend found three $100 bills in the gutter at U of M one time. He treated us all to dinner.

I'll pick up anything over a penny if I'm not in a hurry.

A few months ago I bent over to pick up a $10 bill and shoved it in my pocket. When I went to pay for somethign with it later on. Low and behold there was a benjamin inside. 110$. I pick up every coin and I deposit everything at every paycheck.
