In fact, I do enjoy it...Much better than pissing away money to a landlord by paying rent or buying a $300,000 5-bedroom home with only myself in it.

Generally no, but I've made some exceptions.
The last time I tipped was when I ate out at Olive Garden last year. The waiter was very nice. He went above and beyond the call of duty. If you're only "average" and below, don't expect anything from me because I consider it part of doing your job.
I ate at IHOP earlier this year where the waiter served us food and was gone...Never came back until he saw us getting up after we decided it's time to leave and ran towards us with the reciept book. Of course I didn't tip.

If they don't recieve tip from me to make up to minimum wage, the waiters are obligated to get it from their employer.
That is federal law.

You are a real catch.

Waitstaff would you tell you otherwise. 20% is the tip for any amount of service.

Since when? Who cares what waitstaff think, they're biased in their own favor. 15% has always been the "right" amount of tip. I always give 15% if you simply do your damn job, aka the bare minimum. If you suck, never refill my drink, or I see you standing around BS'ing with coworkers instead of asking me if I want something, you get less. If you do more, you get more.

Bingo.

And no tip on pick up.

Here is a question. What if they give you the coupon price, say $3 off your pizza, if you didn't have a coupon. Would you tip a buck or two?

Where's the POLL?

Anyway, No. Of course not.

Tipping is for extra service. Not for just handing me my food.

Black people don't tip?

ask your waiter/waitress friends.

Its true. My GF is a hair stylist, and she says blacks/indians rarely tip, and when they do they tip like shit.

Yesterday she called me to vent, she spent 2 hours doing this womans hair, her bill was close to $175 for all of the things she got done. She didn't tip a fucking dime. Needless to say, my GF was irate.

This thread is now about minorities and their unwillingness to tip.

My wife asked one of her black friends why black people don't tip. Her response was something like "I'm not paying you to server me, I'm just paying for the food". My wife waited tables through college. I guess it's just a cultural thing.

Scenario #2:
You drive to a restaurant to pick up an order. The waiter took your order over the phone, places it with the kitchen, brings your drinks to the counter, sacks your food and silverware and brings it to the counter. This person makes $2.00/hour and deserves no tip.

That's what you guys are saying?

No thats not what they are saying. The fact is that at pizza shops usually the person working the register is making at least 7 or 8 bucks an hour. Also the drivers are making a similar amount plus probably a delivery charge and tip from the customer. This is fair since they are putting wear and tear on the vehicle plus having to buy gas and insurance.

It annoys me when I feel pressured to tip for takeout from a person who works behind the register and hence, is making at least minimum wage. If they want to make 10, 12 or more $$ per hour they need an incentive to get a better job. Not tipping them is that incentive.

exactly

Agreed. Service has to be VERY good to be deserving of a 20% tip.

When we go to a "sit-down" restaurant, the server is looking at a 15% tip for "normal service." If they do more than just deliver the food, if the food is hot and prepared correctly, if the drinks are kept filled, extra napkins brought throughout the meal, (paper napkins) and if the server is attentive, then they may get more than 15%...and as much as 25% for OUTSTANDING service.

POOR service cuts that tip drastically...and quickly. I have no problem with tipping 2 cents...to show my displeasure at the service. (leaving zero tip leaves the possibility that you just "forgot to tip.")

Heh, yeah we did that at a mexican restaurant. Jose was paying a hell of a lot of attention to the table of sorority girls over there, but didn't see the need to attend to anything we might have needed. I think his nickel and two pennies tip was a clearer message than nothing at all.

Tip if you think they deserve more money for their labors.
Did you deserve more money while working fast food?

She has a point. It's not like you have the option of having a waiter vs not having a waiter.

On the subject of tipping. Do you guys usually tips when you eat at buffets place? It is true you get your own foods/drinks but they usually have some people walking around clean up your dirty plates as you look for something else. Anyway, I usually placed a few bucks but I notice a lot of people leave no tips. Wondering what is the norm.

At most of the buffets around here they bring us napkins, take plates and see if we need anything else. We got out own food though, so I usually tip them a little bit but not anywhere near 15% when they actually are not doing much.

At many buffets, they have people who bring you drinks in addition to cleaning away your used plates.

I will tip a little at those buffets. I do not tip busboys or take-out cashiers.

I tip good waiters/waitresses quite well.

We (best friend and I) were at an O"Charley's and our waiter puled the same crap with these two blondes (one nice looking and the other smoking hot sitting at the next table over). We BARELY got any service and it was so bad the bartender (female) saw it and had to get our refills and other stuff. I spoke to the manager once before the food even came out and he said he would take care of it and the crap continued. So, when we left I went up to the manager in front of about 20+ customers waiting to get served and went off on him about his waiter and how horrible he was and how he lied through his teeth and did not take care of anything. Over half the people waiting got up and left in their cars.

This was the only time I have never tipped and I made sure the guy herd me going off on his manager and why.

I am of the mindset of tipping 15%, not everyone is happy to be at work every day. Do your job and do it well I tip more. My wife's birthday party earlier this year I paid the tip myself for over 30 people which came out to almost 30% because the service was awesome.
