If you monetize a youtube channel it may be time to disable comments.

This is not going to end well if they go after the content creators even more instead of the people causing the entire ad issues youtube is current facing because of the latest problems they are having over inappropriate comments on kids videos / streams.

Yeah heard about this, quite retarded.

I think Youtube is desperate to try to maximize their profits so any excuse they can find to demonetize a video they will do it. That way all the ad money goes to them. Though part of the fault is the advertisers too for being so petty. I don't even know why they care about the content of videos or comments, they're just advertising. As far as they should be concerned they should only care that people are seeing their ads.

Someone really needs to start a competitor.. but the issue is the hosting. Not something cheap to host by any means unless you own your own data centre, which Google does. Most ISPs also don't allow servers, or provide static IPs, so it's not like you could even try to do it from home and start small.

Retarded. Absolutely retarded.

I watch Philip DeFranco daily too - just a matter of mere coincidence... of all people, he probably receives the MINIMUM as far as stupid comments.

Keep on being stupid YouTube - you will be right there next to Facebook, Instagram, etc... with actions like this.

LOL, yes, how dare they try to maximize profits like pretty much every company.
And if you get a business plan with your ISP, you can run a server, etc. Or just rent a VM somewhere. The bandwidth is what's going to cost you.

Er, did Facebook stop having huge piles of money when I wasn't looking?

Youtube comment sections are a cesspool of negativity anyway. They are the Anandtech forums of old where people can make knee-jerk and impulsive reactions . This is them trying to curb user behavior.

It depends, some of the more "serious" channels the comments arn't all that bad.

I don't read comments on them often, but when I do they typically seem pretty reasonable. Mileage probably varies a lot.

I think the issue is this could be abused easily to hurt people that do upload content.
