If you lived in an apartment

and got free electricity for 2 years, but they decided to do away with that (and no more a/c in the summer set at 65F lol 😀) would u still stay there? or move out?

Depends on how much they were charging for rent. I would probably pay - electricity on a small apartment shouldn't even top 100 bucks (hell - I don't even do that in my TOWNHOUSE, with the A/C set at 70degrees year round in Florida).

Shop around other apartment complexes. If you can get a similar unit for less than your paying now, it might be worth it to move. If they all cost the same, the only way you might save money is by going to a unit that's newer and would have better insulation/etc.

Also, you might find out when they're going to start making you pay for electricity and if you can sign a lease renewal before that date. They're going to start charging us trash+water for my townhouse, but because I signed a 1yr lease extension before 7/1 (the date the new charges go into effect), they'll still be included for the next year, saving me probably $350.

It would probably cost more to move than the extra cost of paying for electricity. Even over a year. Time off from work to pack, truck to move your crap, deposit, etc. I'm going through this right now. Owner wants to raise rent by $25 per month. I could be an idiot and move out in a huff, but since the cost of moving to another house is insane, I'll stay here and pay the man $300 extra per year. Way cheaper than moving.

It's like rebuilding an engine in your paid for car or buying another car. It's almost always better to rebuild what you own free and clear than to buy another one.

Yea, but lets say you did pay ~100 USD per month. That would mean a savings of ~1200 USD, wouldn't it?

What would you do? Save the money, and buy a monitor/invest or put the money towards electricity.

It's pretty typical, I think, to have to pay for electricity. Especially with some energy "crisis" in certain parts of some states, I think it would be difficult to find other places which will pay for electricity.

😕

Electricity isn't very expensive.
Moving would be more costly and annoying than putting up the sub-$100 bill per month.

they better be lowering the rent if they are getting rid of free elec

on a side note I miss my free elec apartment in phx I just left the A/C on low I could see my breath in the morn sometimes

Was great for overclocking though

I pay $50 a month for all my utilities as part of my rent. I'm still moving. Why? Well multiple reasons but mostly because the insulation and air-con sucks and even now at 3 am the apt is probably 85F with the air-con on. It's about 60F outside. This sucks.
