if you listen to a book on tape, have you 'read' the book?

just wondering.. suppose you buy one of those books on tape cassettes/cds, and you listen to it... can you say you've read the book?

Definitely note. You can say "I heard the book," but to say that you "read" the book would be incorrect.

going by dictionary.com's definitions, one of the definitions of read is 'To receive or comprehend'. if you listen to a book, and comprehend it, couldnt you say you're 'read' it?

Of course you can, as long as it's not an adaptation or abridged version.
Would you say that a blind person didn't read the book, they just "Felt" it?
