I liked Enemy of the State but detested this movie. I kept thinking Richard Greco (but it's not!) whenever the clerk appeared, but then again, that probably added to the B-grade effect.
The original movie that "The Jackal" was based on; "The Day of The Jackal." Stars Edward Fox, which in my opinion is about as realistic post WW2 conspiracy as you can get.
Also You might want to consider "The Odessa File." With Jon Voight
And "No Way Out." With Kevin Costner.(yeh I dont much care for costner either but he gave an excellent performance in this movie which has a good ending.
You might like Point of No Return with Brigette Fonda. It's based on the French film La Femme Nikita. It's got some conspiratorial elements, but from the point of view of the conspirators instead of the victims. Like working for the Smoking Man.

DAMN YOU! While I was reading the thread I was thinking that "The Day of The Jackal" is MUCH MUCH better then the remake of it a few years back. It is at my local Bockbusters on DVD, although since it was pre-DVD era, there are no extra features on it.
