I'm upgrading my nephew's computer, so that gives me an excuse to unload my old stuff and buy new!
I'm getting a LEADTEK NFORCE2 (unless someone says I shouldn't) from NewEgg, and Thermalright SK7
I decided to spend more on the mobo, since it can handle the future cpus with 333 FSB. That being, said, money is getting tight but the AGOGA looks like it's calling me! My main question is whether I should get the AGOIA 1600, or go for the AGOGA, I think. I'm a mild to mid OCer.

AMD Athlon 1600+/266 FSB XP Processor CPU OEM AGOIA 56.99
XP 1700+ Thoroughbred /266 FSB Processor CPU 1700+ 60.00
XP 1800+ Thoroughbred /266 FSB Processor CPU 1800+ 69.00
AGOGA Stepping** AMD Athlon XP 1900+ AGOGA 89.00

Thanks for your input!

I'd say it depends on whether you plan on unlocking your chip and how good your RAM is. All those chips will give you the same range in OCability depending on your rig and your cooling, ~1.8ghz to 2ghz. Then it comes down to whether you wanna roll up the sleeves and unlock your chip. The T-bred's are unlocked, the Pally's you gotta do some homework on how to unlock them and then actually unlock them. The 1900+ will give you a high clock with minimal FSB OC b/c of the default multi. The 1600+ typically needs to be unlocked unless your RAM can handle very high FSB speeds. the 1700+ and 1800+ T-bred's are unlocked so they give you a range to tinker with. Also, the T-bred's run at a lower default voltage, but people have had problems keeping them cool b/c of the smaller die size. If you are willing to roll up your sleeves a bit, I'd go with the cheapest of the bunch as the headroom seems to be similar for all the chips you listed.

Hello. Because you have some overclocking abilities I would choose:

Asus A7N8X (non-deluxe version) nForce2 motherboard ~$130
AMD XP 1600+ processor RETAIL ~$60
2x256MB DDR333 SDRAM memory modules ~$130

Tweaks: Increase the FSB, in the BIOS, to 166MHz (333MHz DDR) remembering to lock the AGP bus (PCI bus automatically adjusted). This will turn your XP 1600+ into a processor faster than a XP 2200+ - FSB more important than clock speed. Memory speed set to 166MHz (333MHz DDR) also. No latency in this case because FSB and memory speed are synchroneous. Remember to use two sticks of memory with the nForce2 mobo in order to take advantage of the dual memory controllers of the nforce2 - doubles memory bandwidth.

Cheers!

Thanks guys, keep it coming!
BTW, halkebul
Where by chance did you see the ASUS for ~130? I saw it at NewEgg for 150, which was over my limit (I put around 130 at my limit!)
Thanks again!

The one for $150 at newEgg is the deluxe version. the non-deluxe version ($130) is sold here. If it's not in stock - selling like hot cakes - then do a search for "A7N8X" on PriceWatch.

the AGOIA 1600+ is the easiest to overclock and you can do it locked at default volts. Mine goes to 175mhz locked without any problems with default volts. So I'd say go the 1600+
