If you learned a government financed "Multifamily housing complex for very low income, low income, and disabled" was being built next door to you.

Would you welcome it, or would you try to stop it from being built.

They've got to build it somewhere.

Next thing you know you'll be surrounded by Goodwill and Salvation army stores.

Well, government wouldn't build those kind of complexes in Beverly Hills, so I think they'll build it where they think fits. That means if they build something like that next door to you, chances are you shouldn't be worried too much, you belong.

I'd come on the internet and bitch about it.

How's the audacity of poor people wanting shelter. What do they think this is, a first world country or something?

Depends on what the project is going to be.

"Government funded, multi-family" might be low-income or senior citizen housing, (not necessarily bad) it might be straight "section 8" housing, (which usually meant problems for the neighborhood, or it might mean "housing projects," which almost always mean problems for a neighborhood.

For any of them EXCEPT the senior citizen housing, I'd be protesting, bitching, at the city council/county government meetings, etc., raising all the hell I could. I know one or two reporters from the local newspaper, and I'd be bitching to them about it, trying to get them to do a story (hopefully a negative story) about the project, how it's poorly placed, perhaps about any fraudulent or shoddy planning, etc.
Once upon a time, if that failed, I'd sell the house and move...but with the shitty housing market...I'm stuck for a while.

All you self-righteous poor people lovers would be upset if it happened to you (assuming you own a house you care about).

Yep. NIMBY. Hey, it's a great idea until you have to live next to it.

Shit man, you better get tested just in case.

Could be worse, I nearly came in contact with a French person. :(

They build it where they can get the land at the lowest possible price. It's not like THEY have to worry about the neighbors, after all.

Right, and the lowest possible land wouldn't be a lot somewhere in Beverly Hills...

If it were just for the elderly or disabled I wouldn't mind too much. Otherwise it just brings in problems like crime. I know my friends neighborhood seems to be slowly converting to all section 8 housing. Hes also seen a large spike in crime and gang violence since.

Not necessarily....they also consider the area. I've seen this type of housing put up next to pretty nice neighborhoods.

It's not good for anyone's property value who is in the general vicinity. Crime rate will pretty much be guaranteed to go up.

Sad, but that's the way it is. I think anyone has the right to bitch about it.....if OP had wanted to live in or next to housing like this, he would have done that in the first place.

This argument is very similar to when they want to build an airport or some industrial complex near houses.
