What's the point of using a condom at all if you don't think it will protect you from STDs?

Sure, it prevents pregnancy, but if you're trying to keep from getting sick, and you put absolutely no faith in the condom, relying instead on "I hope she doesn't have AIDS", then why are you using a condom at all?

It just seems to me that if you don't trust the condom when you know she has AIDS, why would you trust the condom when you're not sure if she does or not? Basically that means that you're gambling on the chance that she wouldn't have AIDS, which is the same thing you're doing with no condom at all.

Once, I was talking to a woman who told me she had herpes. We, friends and friends of friends were doing a Friday happy hour in our favorite dive. I did not know her that well and do not think I was hitting on her. But I backed off.

A couple of months later she told me she was in remission. I backed off even further.

A) The chances of a male contracting HIV from a female while wearing a condom are so low its very negligible
B) I still wouldn't unless it was someone I was planning to marry....random sex isn't that great anyway
C) Its pointless for your friend to get checked out so early. It takes anywhere from 3-12 months for it to show up in tests.
