The fight scene between the Hulk and Iron Man in the last Avengers wasn't too shabby, especially when the building crashed down...

I didn't see the movie in the theaters and finally saw it when it came out on disc and I guess I set the bar higher than I should have...Didn't enjoy it as much as the first Avengers movie...

When they released the "new! enhanced! AND THREE (33333)-D!!!" version a couple years ago for a weekend in the theatres right before the Bluray version, went with a few friends and checked it out.

It was cleaned up and the 3d (obviously not shot in 3d) was well done, really only came out in the scenes where it was appropriate - all crammed into an office getting yelled at? Not so much. Planes on the runway or buzzing around in the sky (danger zooooone)? Yeah.

Also, just pure 80's hair soundtrack of awesome. :awe:

A HT room is in my future...

Can confirm, Fury Road was amazing. Was my first movie in the not really finished theater, breaking The Rule.

Edge of Tommorrow is impressive if you have good subwoofers. I'm rocking dual 18" ported subs and it is nice.

For 3D, Gravity is prerrty damned impressive.

For amazing on screen imagery, I have no idea what to say.

And of course, there are the AVS forums which has reviewed pretty much every popular movie by categories like video, sound, low frequency extension, etc.

Also, is this just a movie to see or a demo? Edge of Tommorrow is definitely the sound demo you should consider.

No atmos. I think the Atmos demo is cool in theaters but as soon as the movie starts I cannot tell if Atmos is better or not. I guess I need a home theater that can flip it on and off to so I can really tell. I am still happy with 5.1.

I'm the same way. I watched some atmos demos in a controlled room with a calibrated system and really couldn't tell much difference. It's so subtle to me that the overhead sound just blends in a bit. I could tell there was stuff happening from the rear and/or sides though. Really the only way I can tell atmos is working is with a cheesy demo that purposely makes something fly around the room with no sound from the other channels. I feel that past 5.1 there is diminishing returns though.

edit: Was watching The Man in the High Castle on Amazon and some of the dialog seemed to be buried in the sound mix and muffled just a bit. Most of it is front and center and very clear, other times it's difficult for me to pick out what was said. Is this something that people notice in other shows and movies too? Usually it's not a problem at all but I have noticed it before in some movies. Is it something that is common now, where dialog isn't as clear as it should be? I don't imagine it's just me. I know Interstellar was famous for having dialog that was tough to hear, but made so on purpose. I also noticed it in my copy of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
