I'll laugh at you when u have a deer in your hood from the night driving...

As if you can avoid it during the day time.

They usually dont jump around the road during the day.

Regardless, what you said was completley inapropriate.

I'd rather take my chances with the deer than the average asshole driver who would be on the road during the day anyway.

I'll disagree. folks on the road don't jump out like a deer does to cross the road.

And during the day they don't cross those paths. that happens EARLY in the am. like before you get up am.

Hundreds of soccer mom's weaving back and forth across three lanes of interstate while eating their big macs, blabbing on their cell phones and applying makeup versus the occasional one deer you'd have to put up with?

I'm from pensyltucky and I'd infinitley rather have the deer. I'm really surprised you don't agree.

to be honest, i hate driving at night because my vision isn't bright at night. i had an eye operation (on my right eye) so night isn't great for me to drive.

i always drive 6 hours back and forth for college. from north NJ to rochester, ny = 6 hours. i'm already used to it and i usually drive early in the morning and get there around the afternoon.

day driving. I'd be on the road just before break of dawn, you start with just enough light and by the time you're rolling you'll be there in 4.5 hours.

-edit- and at that distance, look at flying.

OP - it's not "can you handle it", you know what is the safer and faster course of action......daytime.

If you figure in time to drive to the airport, time at the airport, time flying, time waiting for your luggage if neccessary, and time driving from your destination airport to your final destination, the time could be right around the 4.5 hours you say it would take to drive it.

Averaging 90 mph for 4.5 hours is overly optimistic though I think.

Yeah, I hit the 2001 blizzard heading east to NYC...I was the only car on the road after a while, and the only way I knew where the road was was by looking for the "flat" area of snow:)

That's the same trip where I found out that the previous owner of my car had "fixed" the intake manifold with duct tape, which was allowing bits of half-melted snow to get into the engine and cause it to sputter and stall. And where some putz at a NJ gas station spilled half a gallon all over the side of my car.

Where are you people driving that deer are crossing highways? I've never seen a deer cross a highway.

At best I think it's a rare event.

It's even worse when the deer drive across the highway.

I would prefer night driving. I have to make a 355 mile trip soon, back to college. But I've got 8am classes, and I can't make the nightshift->dayshift switch in 2 days, so it's daytime driving for me. On a Saturday no less. Yay.

Leave when you won't be driving through a possible high traffic area. If a rush hour is 1 hour away, don't leave between 6 & 10 am or between 2 & 6 pm.

Night or day is great.

i think the answer mostly has to do with when i need to be there by, and what will happen if i arrive early or late. it's at least a 6 hour drive. if i get there at 3 am i'll probably be like crap the next morning.

Depends.

Do I have to be at work all day and then leave afterwards? Or can I sleep in late and be rested for my night drive? Nothing is really worse than being active all day long, and then driving for 6 - 7 hours. I've done it numerous times, only for longer trips (~700 miles), and was completely worthless the next day.

All things being equal, I prefer night driving. I can't stand traffic, and REALLY can't stand construction traffic. Makes me want to kill somebody. :|

it depends on where i need to be that next day. if i don't have to do anything that important, i'll get up REALLY early and drive that morning, or else i'll drive at night.

and i won't drive alone at night. if i'm going alone, i always go during the early morning.

If I was going to somewhere checking into a hotel i'd leave in the morning. If I was driving back home, and if it was over 550 miles(8 hours), i'd leave at night time.

Of course the situation dictates the start time. I prefer driving at night with 2 kids in the back seat.

400 miles isnt that big of a drive so it doesnt really matter that much when I would leave. Now if the drive is going to take as long, or longer than my shift at work, I would probably leave at the butt crack of dawn just because I would rather get that ****** over with, and you get to see the country that you drive through during the day.

depending on the place, if you have to go through a busy place etc. i like to start earlier in the morning like 2-3am, skip all the traffic.

usually, early in the morning. like at 4. then you can arrive at a good time. also, night is more difficult. me and my grampa once did 700KM in one day on a motorcycle. now that is hard.

Your choices suck. Why leave at 9am when you'll get there around 4pm, no time really left in the day to do anything. Leave at 5 or 6am tops, get there by noon or 1, and you have the whole afternoon/evening to do whatever you want, rather than sleeping after night driving or whatnot.

I've driven to VA from VT a few times, 12 hours one way, left at 3am every time. Less traffic, and if you have someone riding shotgun keep them awake until daylight to watch for animals.

I love night driving. The last few times I have driven from Fla. to Va, I have left between 9 and 10 pm. The roads are completely empty and it's cruise control the whole way. If you can stay awake, the driving is cake.
