I punched a hole in the return duct in my basement so I can add a return vent, and found this:





It was like pulling a carpet, it came out in only a few solid pieces. D:
 
uh, most ducts will look like that anyways. it happens when you force dust laden air down narrow chutes.
 
I think that's why my lungs feel like they're on fire (asthma/allergies) whenever I walk into a building with central forced air cooling.

Ductless HVAC FTW.
