Last week in my basketball league I stopped a high speed pass with my ring finger. Instant swelling happened. Bruising started the next day.

Now over a week later, the swelling above has gone down and there's still a bit of bruising, but my first knuckle (closest to my hand) is still pretty big. I can't come close to getting my wedding ring back on there. The finger is really rigid too, I can't fully grip things.

There's really not much I can do except wait...but I don't really know how long these things take to mend up.

It can take a looong time. If it was that bad, you probably should have went to the doctor/hospital to get a splint.

I play with some ED docs. They looked it over when it happened...didn't think it was broken, taped it up, and I played another 2 hours with the sprain. Basically they just said to ice it for a few days and take some ibuprofen for the swelling.

I was going to have them look at it again last night but our league doesn't play for another week.

You played for two hours after it happened? Those docs were just being mean to you. When something like that happens, the best thing is to keep the finger fixed, and let it heal ... NOT keep playing a high impact (on your hands, anyway) sport that makes the injury worse.

Reminds me of when I was a younger man, and I was playing with my wrist strap sling shot. I put a rock in it, and I was going to shoot that rock as far as possible. I pulled wayyyy back and then some more, and I let loose.

Rock smashed straight into my middle finger knuckle. My vision went white. 10 seconds later my finger was 3-4 times it's normal size and purple. Lasted for 2 days. I just put ice on it. Turns out I broke it and didn't know. The bone grew back together funny.
