I have gotten one or more of every AMD choice, including EPYC and threadripper. My signature has most of the details. I also got a couple of 14 core Xeons.

My complete list is:
Quantity, then breakdown.

3 - 1xxx series Ryzen
4 - 2xxx Series Ryzen
4 - 3xxx series Ryzen (still have)
9 - threadripper, 6 1950x, 2 2990wx, 2770wx
2 - 14 core Xeons
5 - EPYC, 2 7742, 2 7601, 7551 7452

After reading a few posts here, I am curious.

I wish there were more choices (more than 10) allowed, so I did my best to categorize.

Update: as of 9/22/2020 at 1:46 pm below are the percentages (rounded to the nearest % point)
Ryzen all series 71%
Threadripper all series 5%
Intel 4,6,8 CORE 15%
AMD other 3%
Intel other 6%
EPYC 1%

Its certainly obvious that this community vastly favors AMD since Ryzen came out 3 years ago. AMD total 79%, Intel 21%

Edit: since the poll allows up to 3 votes each, 300% could be the total. I calculated real numbers/total

Chipset driver installation issues:
StoreMI discontinued but newer version came later:
I was wrong about 300-series support as they were never supported in the first place, but it would seem strange that they're not supported while the 400-series are, given that there is not much difference between the actual chipsets.
Reduced SATA performance on X570:
Had to go to the competition for the story :tearsofjoy:

I could only cast 3 votes, but I've had....

Ryzen 7 1700 & Ryzen 7 1800X
Ryzen 7 3700X, Ryzen 9 3900X, & Ryzen 9 3950X
Intel i7-8700K
Intel i7-9700, Intel i7-9700K
Intel i9-9900 (non K)

Currently still running... 3950X, i7-9700K, and i9-9900.

Are we counting used? Picked up a Xeon 2650 v2 for $46 on Ebay. Not too bad for 8c/16t that seem happiest at 3.5GHz. Using it for VMs mostly.

Why? Because I am a sucker. And I don't think we will be seeing Ice Lake-X at all. Too impatient to wait for Sapphire Rapids.

8700K for gaming rig back in 2017, still going to this day. Probably good enough for one more GPU upgrade cycle, great longevity from this chip.

This year I also got an R5 3600 because I wanted to build an ITX setup and got a good bundle deal with a B450 ITX mobo off Amazon.

Also got a second hand 9100F for dirt cheap ($50), haven't had time to build a system around it. Not sure why I even bought it haha, guess it'll make a good spare / light gaming PC.

had a 2600k with a HD5970... going strong until it didn't... my 9 years old power supply (by then) exploded and fried everything else. i just played world of warcraft so i didn't need that much powah so i got a 3200G with 16gb ddr4 3200 last july. so far so good. i'm waiting for big navi and i think i will also buy a 4k monitor to try newer games or just keep playing wow but at 4k. oh and a macbook air 2018 with a i5-8210Y that is sadly close to useless for gaming.

Back in 2017 I had upgraded to a Intel Core i7-7700(paired with a Gigabyte Z270XP-SLI-CF motherboard).Housed in a Cooler Master Storm Trooper full-tower case.

Now (Sept.2020),as of tonight,I'm upgrading to an AMD Ryzen 3700X,paired up with a Gigabyte X570 Gaming X motherboard.

(Originally had 16 GB of Corsair Vengence LPX DDR4 when I had a computer tech friend of mine build my I7-7700 setup)...now running 32 GB of Corsair Vengence LPX DDR4.

(The 32 GB of DDR4 and my Nvidia GTX 1080 are being carried over from my current Intel build.)

Planning on eventually transfering (initially,at least) my Core i7 and the 16GB of DDR4 into my backup Linux PC,when I rebuild my backup PC into a new mid-tower case.

On my main PC,I'm still running my PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1200 PSU that I bought back in January 2013.

(That Turbo-Cool 1200 is still going strong, even over 7 and a half years later...)

(My computer tech friend,Lowell,is the one who will be handling the rebuild for me,as I don't trust myself to break something while juggling parts.)

Hopefully,by late November or so,I'll be able to afford a RTX 3070 to replace my GTX 1080.
(it's something I want,not need for now.)

Intel Xeon E5-2670 when they were massively cheap to upgrade my Dual 5640L server, consolidated from 2 chips to 1
Intel Xeon E5-2678 v3 to upgrade my X58 platform, Turbo unlock and 12 good cores for <$90 was hard to pass up. X99 boards still really expensive (considering their age) without finding a good deal though

Multiple Athlons Prior to chip below
AMD 4850? Such a long time ago don't remember
AMD APU's don't remember exactly which ones I was teaching my son to build
FX 8350
Ryzen 2600x current build, contemplating dropping in a new chip that fits that chipset.

How is that surface please. Heat, noise?
Thanks

It sounds no louder then my surface 4.
As for heat, it does get a bit toasty like all the i7 versions, but i have not seen it throttle unless i make it throttle by running Aida64.

Overall, i love surfaces. Hands down the best tablet/laptop you can get if you do not mind treating them like cell phones, and having to replace it every few years.

I went with the 8700K around the time they announced the 9th gen would be compatible with Z370. Then swapped to a 9700K when Microcenter had a sale. Photoshop is my main program and at the time Intel's frequency advantage won out. If I were building today it would be hard to ignore the 3900X.
