I have an IBM Thinkpad 600 2645 T41. It's a P2 233MMX, 288 MBs ram, 3.2 GB Hard Drive and a Magi DVD to go card. It also has a Toshiba Slim Drive model # XM-1702B and I want to replace it with a DVD Rom drive. Does anyone know if this IBM FRU 05K9160
Model : SD-C2302 will work on it? Here's a link to a pic http://66.47.216.110/ibmt20drive.jpg It came out of a T20.

Any help is most appreciated.

Don't even bother with a DVD for movies on a 600....well, I'm not sure withth e Magi DVD 2 go card, but here's what I know.

My company uses IBM thinkpads. The 600, 600E were lousy at playing DVD's. Even the 600X series (Pentium 3) were pretty bad.

But for what you're thinking of, I believe you just have to swap the outer case of a CD-Rom from the 600 with the A/T series case of the DVD drive. Should be some clips and screws to undo, then the DVD guts are removable.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, never had to do it....and I wouldn't bother on a p2-233 laptop.

good Luck regardless!

I said I'm not sure with an e Magi DVD 2 go card.

Just be warned that a 600X (P3-500) had problems watching DVD's from Disc or from a HD.....using the integrated NeoMagic 256AV+ video card. And it suposedly has/had hardware DVD playback abilities.....

Good Luck! Post what happens, I'm curious
