Howdy,
I have two of these Nokia 445Pro's from the CDW deal years ago when Viewsonic bought out Nokia's monitor business. I have always been frustrated by the unsaturated, muted, and low contrast picture. I even got the company I was doing consulting for at the time to purchase 15 of these screens from CDW and they all have the same characteristics.
Well, I finally got around to searching on Google for a fix and I found it.
There is a service menu available which contains many advanced controls for this monitor.
The menu is accessed by holding down the menu button while powering on the monitor... then once it is finished degaussing, release, and then press the menu button again and a menu will pop up asking for a service password. The password is 7711
Remember to always write down the existing settings before adjustment.
For tuning, I used the nokia test program included on the driver cd and available here,
Nokia Monitor test
The text screen seems best for adjusting sharpness.
And
Displaymate Demo.exe at Displaymate
And for accurate gamma adjust and low black level balance between the three colors,
Accurate Image Manipulation
You need to click on the Monitor Calibration, and The Color Dither Gamma Calibration Target, still beta but very much usable already. to figure out what to do.
I adjusted my screens by first setting the geometry of the screen,
then the focus,
and then the grey level by bumping the max contrast up to 100%,
then the r,g,&b amp up until there was visible distortion then backing them down about 5%.
Then I adjusted the black level with the color gamma picture listed below,
then after opening a large white window, I adjusted the amp gain slightly downward between r,g,&b looking to get the most pleasing white. This would be best to do according to the system listed at Accurate Image Manipulation as Color Temperature adjust. You get there by clicking on CRT Brightness and Contrast (setting the blackpoint) and then clicking on An easy but very accurate method to calibrate the color-temperature of the monitor to daylight (D6500)
There is a control called BCL or something like that in the Grey Level menu that seems best maxed out.
The gamma adjust is useful for balancing the blacklevel out in conjunction with brightness and contrast.
My screens are now virtual windows. They are so brightly saturated that it is like looking at a National Geographic magazine in high-noon sun. What a difference.
P.S. I run my dual screens at 1600x1200 on an Radeon 8500. I just picked up the ComputerGeeks Hercules Radeon 9000 pci card so I can run each screen at 1840x1440. The screens can handle higher resolutions easily, as they actually go all the way to 2050xXXXX or whatever that higher res is, but the second monitor support by the Radeon does not support over 1600x1200
