i'm thinking about getting a 2nd cd-rom because i play several games that require the cd to be in the drive, and i'm sick of constantly swapping them out. will a game (need for speed 4, for example), scan both drives when looking for it's cd?
From poking around in the registry looking for game installs, i have found out that most games usually have some sort of "Source : X" key, which points to a specific cd rom drive. It shouldn't cause problems.
A lot of games are smart enough to search for the drive with the correct cd..but you will probably run into the occasional game that needs the cd to be in the drive that it was installed in..
I know that I only have one or two games the require the cd to be in the install drive
I have a few games that include a registry entry that points to the cd-rom. For those games I just have it point to a directory and copy the cd files there. Of course, you need a bit more space, but it saves time on those games that have that key. Just a thought.
A problem I came across with 2 cd drives (dvd and cd re-writer, to be exact), was that I only have the audio cable running from the sound card into one of the drives. Is there any way to get around this? Is it possible to get an audio cable with a dual connection at one end that goes into both cd drives?
Yes, I do believe it is possible to get (or make) a audio cable that connects to two cdroms, although a lot of sound cards have two or more connections for audio cable..not too sure about if yours does..
