If I had to switch to Verizon right now, and had to pick Android, if probably go for the Droid MAXX. The Droid Mini would be my second choice. Followed by the HTC One, then the Galaxy Note 2.
I would probably pick an iPhone 5, myself... Would pick a Lumia 928 over all the Android devices if iOS wasn't an option.
I would give a visit to a retail store to see the X and the Droids. I hadn't been to Verizon's store (both web and retail) for years, and was shocked to learn how bad their collection were. That was a couple of months ago, but now that they have the S4, the One, the X, the Droids, and of course the iPhones so their shelves are now somewhat comparable to the rest. I personally want to see the wooden version of the X.
It really does depend on platform. If I was switching and wanted an iPhone, I would wait for the 5S. Personally I run WP and the camera is important to me, so I would try to hold out for the equivalent of the 1020 to come out. For Android, see above recommendations.
droid maxx. not having to worry about charging your phone is a huge plus that you cant get with any other phone. battery life trumps performance for me. also the build quality of motorola phones is quite beautiful
