There are a lot of rabid ThinkPad fanboi's here but I would keep the HP.

Or return both and buy a Dell Latitude D630 :)

get the HP for it's price.

it's got better specs, personally.

HP has come a long ways with service and product quality, so you should feel safe getting that over a T series which I think is a rip off for it's price.

I just wish HP's support was as good as Lenovo.

I think the HP has a better graphics card. Those laptops both have low res screens for the size though

I was thinking the same thing, but did a quick google search and found this which shows the Quadro NVS 140m to be slightly faster than the 8400m GS.

With that in mind, the HP still has Vista Home Premium vs Basic on the Lenovo. The HP also has a larger hard drive and battery, all for a lower price. So, I would still go with the HP myself.

Fixed. They are 15.4" screens, so the next higher step after WXGA(1280x800 for Dell/lenovo, 1280x768 for HP) is WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050)

WXGA+ comes on 14.1" screens (1440 x 900)

You're right. I'm used to 14.1" screens not 15.4's but yeah I would get WSXGA+

My gut instinct is *always* to buy IBM/Lenovo over any HP/Compaq, Dell, Gateway, etc. I suppose I am what Ross would call a rabid fanboi... but then again, I've yet to kill a ThinkPad, and I generally can't make a Dell (Inspiron *or* Latitude) last more than a year before I've done something to irreparably damage it. If you're buying for specs/performance, go with the HP. If you want something that will last forever, and that has great service, go with the ThinkPad.

ThinkPad build quality and tech support are awesome and in some ways unsurpassed, however it wasn't the right laptop for my needs.

I wanted to be a rabid fanboi but my ThinkPad T60 sucks compared to my Dell Latitude D630 which was also $250 cheaper.

:)

Lenovo is getting pretty shotty. I'd go with HP

But 15.4" + 12Cell battery =

I prefer ultraportables :)

agreed on most of the HP posts. and both of RossMAN's points in this quoted post.

note...people say HP has come a looooong way. if it has, i don't wanna know what it used to be before it progressed so much. they have decent build quality, great keyboard, and look nice. but if something happens, be prepared to wait 3 weeks at a time for each service.

on a positive note, if you send in your laptop for service, your warranty becomes 90 days past the return date. so, if you bought your laptop october 1, 2006, and you just got back your laptop from service today (9/23/07), your new warranty end date is ~12/23/07 (90 days after you received your laptop from service). i'm not sure if the extended warranty applies to only the replaced/repaired parts or to the entire laptop, though.

There are WXGA+ screens in 17"
