SF or Ft.Lauderdale for different reasons. SF because it's an amazing city, Ft.L for the beaches/weather.

San Fran, Seattle, Santa Clara, Chicago would be on my list. I'm from the north east so I can easily get to those east coast destinations. I vacationed in Ft Lauderdale and it was meh to me. i'd only go there if it was the dead of winter. the cities in the NE would be nice if you've never been to them.

San Francisco, Santa Clara, Chicago or Seattle. No way would I go to Ft Lauderdale or anywhere in Texas in July or August.

Can't stay longer on your own dime or don't care to?

Family at home. My wife will need me back on the weekends.

I used to travel a month or so out of the year for work going out west and up north.... I'm sure I'll have more opportunity to really see new places in another 5-10 years.

I'm just bummed because no where on that list excites me because it's either too far away (long flights) or I don't know what to see/do when I'm not sitting in class. I've been to DC, NYC, Chicago, etc... Out of that list, Chicago and DC seem easier to navigate than NYC as long as it's Chicago downtown (trains) or DC is far enough away from the city center than I'm not sitting in traffic or stuck on the beltway.

Ft Lauderdale training isn't exactly oceanfront and will probably be less than fun, though it does sound like it could be fun if I rent a car or something.

Ft Lauderdale would be fun in January. It will be miserable in August.

Satire can be hard to spot here in ATOT.
Thanks for at least replying. I've not gotten the travel approved yet. Budgets are strapped, so I can't make a final decision for a few weeks. I'd really like to go to Seattle or San Francisco for vacation. Mainly so I could go to Napa and do wine tour. I've never set foot outside the SFO airport terminal....

I'm going to price out flying to Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, and Houston and see what is the cheapest....then compare that to driving to/from DC.

I'm not worried about making it to the beach...I'm hitting the coast next week for vacation.

I'd agree w your two choices. No way would I be caught dead in the south during June/July/August. Went to Orlando one year in July and sweat my tits off for 5 days straight. Nope no thanks. At least San Fran and Seattle will have fun things to do without making you sweat your brains out.

Even as satire, which I honestly doubt it was, had you said those 'black watermelon eaters' from Oakland you'd have gotten reprimanded for it. Hell even DrPizza defends the use of the word lovely human because of some lame association with a south park episode. I'm tired of the constant attempts to poke fun at homosexuality going unchecked and it's getting fucking old. They don't impact me because I've lived through far worse, but to people who aren't able to or don't feel safe to come out yet, to constantly read shit like this is damaging. You'll likely be the first to jump back and say 'but it's just a joke, lighten up' to which I say, try that with another minority here and see what happens, even as 'satire.'

In Lauderdale, if you are near Los Olas, you can take a water taxi to anywhere you would want to go... But if you are not near A1A or Los Olas, I'd skip it.

If the Chicago training is on, or near, Michigan Ave, that can be an excellent place to visit as well. Access to Grant Park, Archtectural Tours, Art Museum, and Museum Campus. Ability to take the L from either airport downtown makes the airport run easy.

Best of luck,
Uno

Done all of those for conventions and training and probably NYC was my favorite. Just the density of stuff to see if off the charts and I much prefer taking a taxi into the city and then just walking or taking the subway.

Is this a company paid trip? May as well purposely pick one where you do have to fly. Going in a plane is fun.

Houston sounds kind of fun, they have lot of data centres there and stuff, could maybe go visit some. The heat would be a killer though. That would be more fun as a winter trip, to get a break from winter. Can you ask to get the training moved to winter? With how short summers are I would kinda be pissed if I was asked to go for training in summer.

As someone who sometimes makes these types of jokes, thanks for pointing out how hurtful they can be. I'll try to do better at not being an asshole.

If you're from the south, you won't like us northern folk, so check all those above Mason-Dixon line out.

Also you prob would hate all the gay butt pounders floating around in San Fran. Also, it's in the list three times..? Plus, Cali will be way too liberal for your liking...along with most of the entire west coast, so just cross that off your list.

Chicago you'll likely be stabbed/shot.

That basically leaves you Houston or Ft. Lauderdale. Florida is probably the shittiest state in this country... So I vote Houston.
I kinda despise the Florida the shittiest state attitude all the time, I was born in Staten Island, raised in the Midwest and have lived in Hawaii and California for many years at a time.

And have traveled a lot, but moved to Clearwater in 1990 and like it myself, just blasting FL off the cuff always burns me up a little.

Pittsburgh - PA is called the prison state for a reason
San Francisco - My top pick, I left my heart there, if you find it, send it to me.
Seattle - Never been there, sounds great though, if you like rain.
Houston - I try to avoid Texas, except for Austin. If you like the smell of petrol refineries you might love it.
D.C. - Overpriced snake pit
NYC - Overpriced and everything is covered in a disgusting sticky film, be ready to be molested and abused by cops in a stop and frisk, especially if you aren't white.
Montvale(NJ) - Dunno, if its near the coast it might be nice.
Ft Lauderdale - Nope.
Santa Clara - Dunno
Chicago - Smells like an open sewer and you will be shot.

I vote Seattle! Find a good sushi restaurant and order up some geoduck!

And then I'd go here for the best damn burger you've ever had in your life! In-N-Out, Fatburger, and Steak-N-Shake combined couldn't touch this place.

Get there early because the line gets long quick!
