If you had the chance to work in your field in Antarctica for a year, would you?

Given a chance to work in a completely, absolutely different place for a year? Absolutely.

Sure, the fear of death or frostbite might hold some people back, but if I die out there, then all the better: I was there.

If anything, you'd be able to tell some pretty cool stories when you came back.

Maybe for a couple months if the pay was right, but no way I could do a year.

I would only if many criteria were met.
1. It couldn't jeopardize the future of my current job.
2. I would need a high speed internet connection, not some crappy satelite that only works during certain hours of the day and has terrible latency
3. Would need to have snomobiles to play with when it's "warm" (as in, warmer than like -40) out.
4. If I was working in my field in Antarctica, I'd probably be working more than 40 hours per week, as there would not be as much to do as there is here, thus, I'd expect a bit more pay then what I get currently.
5. Since I doubt I'd be able to get a townhouse or something out there, I'd at least want 500 sq foot of my own personal space, my own bathroom, my own bedroom, and a good sized home entertainment system and PC.

Meh, I think I'll stay put where I am now working my current job with co-workers who I get along with great and a really cool boss.

Since I'd have to spend the majority of the time indoors.... who else is going to be there? If they're annoynig people, then no. If they've got gerat personalities, then yes.

I fear my field would become fallow if I was to work a field in Antarctica for a year. :p

I would but I'd probably go bonkers. The odds of me falling through a pit and being frozen alive in a block of ice are pretty high. Bad stuff always happens to me in outdoor wastelands.

Well, I live in Alaska. It would be like an extended winter for me. :p

And I lived in Maine for 18 years. Antarctica is still cold as fvck. Only if I got paid at least 10 times more would I work down there. :)
