. . . . let me tell you, the thing is a big piece of it!
Had a Chrome Orb on my T-B 1G, and couldn't get much out of it. Wouldn't do 1100 stably, and I kept getting Kernel and Explorer crashes, which was growing quite frustrating. Had to reboot about six times a day, Baldur's Gate 2 was a crash-happy mofo, and basically I was cursing my VIA chipset motherboard. Tried new drivers, etc.
Looked at Mikewarrior's heatsink comparison, slapped my forehead and ordered a FOP38. Put it on (I didn't use the Radio Shack stuff, I went ahead and stuck with the pad on the HS), cranked it up to 1100, and it works like a charm. My system has been on 18 hours now, and it has had nary a burp. The fan is a little loud, but I already had 6 fans in my system, so it doesn't bother me. I can just close the door to the guest room, where my computer is, if I need to get some sleep. My chip does 1100 at default voltage (10x110) and 1150 makes it to the desktop before hanging. A board with multiplier and voltage adjustment is on the way, so we'll see what else I can get out of this darlin'.
Thanks, Mikewarrior, for showing us the light!
