Yeah you have to have some hunks of meat in there or else it's just a very slow way to cook anything else, except unsoaked beans take close to the same time either way, long enough you aren't babysitting them while preparing the rest of the meal.

I have a crock pot collecting dust. Used it maybe three times in ten years.

I'm about to make some Brunswick stew on the crock pot. I'm going to plug it in before I go to sleep tonight and I should wake up to some nice warm soup tomorrow morning.

Mayne, here's the recipe I'm using in case you want to make some too. :)

Brunswick Stew

Ingredients:

2 lb. chopped BBQ meat (I'm using smoked pulled pork since I have some in the freezer)
2 TBSP of your favorite rub
2 28oz cans whole tomatoes, including the juice
2 11oz cans sweet corn
1 1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
2 cups water
1 tsp black pepper
2 tsp salt
1/2 to 1 tsp cayenne (depend on your heat preference)
1 tsp hot sauce
1 stick butter

Combine all the ingredients in the crock pot and set it to low. Let it simmer on low for about 6 hours. Enjoy!

I use crock pot for two things: Brunswick stew and chili.

Your "stew" is lacking potatoes and vegetables...

I have one I never know what to make in it other than beef stew, which gets old. I should try to learn more recipes. I've used it for spaghetti sauce too, it's nice since I don't have to keep going to stir it, but I find it does not come out quite as good as on the stove. Ends up too runny.

Those who don't use crockpots are good cooks. I use it all the time because no one knows how to cook in our house.

Or fast food/pizza peeps.

Guilty here, too. Not enough time, too much life. Chicken, chili, even lasagna ...whatever gets us to Friday.

Pinto beans is usually what I would make in the crockpot. Now I use an instant pot and they are done in less than 2 hours.
