Well, I have FIOS. Gigabit is sweet! Eventually, I hope, IPv6 will get here as well. (Supposedly in testing.)

I'm all in on the Google train already, so they get my vote. I have AT&T fiber currently...can't complain so far, however it took an act of congress to get near the speeds that I should be reaching.

These are my speeds on AT&T 1Gbps line over the past few weeks. Certainly not what is advertised and/or I'm paying for.
I don't know if it's worth the calling and complaining though.

Google, at least they pretend to support net neutrality and maybe actually do. I have gigabit Verizon though with no actual service complaints. The install guy did a great job too wiring the ethernet to my network closet.

I wouldn't mind Verzion if they just gave me the price without me having to call each year. Next time I need to renew or change, I'm going to try to get a 5 year deal.

They'll probably try to blame your hardware, as they did with me. It took 2 techs and ~7 hours combined to get things resolved.

I'd take the time to complain about that. And yeah, it will be a PITA but that is fairly bad.

Yeah I know I should, it's just so painful to deal with these people. Maybe after the new year when things are slower around here. Thing is, I don't even max the line right now as is even with everyone in my house steaming something, playing something and I'm leeching newsgroups or something.

Google Fiber in a picosecond. But they cancelled plans to expand into Oregon so I'm stuck with craptacular Frontier.

I called Sonic.net yesterday, who have been installing fiber around the Bay Area and inundating me with mailers for around a year. I don't get the free month because I'm already a customer (DSL on ATT copper cables, pretty damn far from the CO so it's <5mbps). They told me October, I'm in like Flinn for fiber. Then they say November. So I call yesterday, WTH is my fiber, they go, permitting in Berkeley is the holdup, looks like early 2019. I try to pin her down she says Jan. to Mar. Uh, right.

Are they on ATT fiber? Dunno exactly what the politics of this are but they say up to gigabit, no data limits, open internet policies, and they declare it's the cheapest in the nation (she said that on the phone yesterday, but it's her job to say that, I didn't detect a sense of her particularly knowing what she was talking about... I had called the number they give out for info about the upgrade, will probably get wiser info if I call a tech support person and grill them, not someone hired to respond to inquiries about fiber internet installation).

~700mbps? I'm dealing with <5mbps from these guys for just years. Used to be a little higher. I'm sick of complaining. I get people on the phone and we dick around for 1/2 hour, or whatever, they boost me maybe 10-15% if I'm lucky and next time I check it's lower than the time before when I called. Gigabit due on October, wait, that's November, wait it's "early 2019." Oh boy. My 4k streaming capable computer is arriving tomorrow, but my ISP is "the missing link." They are bringing out the latent misanthrope in me. I try to be optimistic but sometimes I am anything but.

Wish I could get Google or even FIOS but I'm stuck with Comcast. I can't complain really though. In all the years I've had them, I've shockingly never had an issue. Even cutting the cord in October, I still haven't had any connection issues or the like so I'm pretty satisfied. Knock on wood. We've been getting close to our 1tb cap, but haven't gone over. The real test will come when the wife and daughter are out of school and sitting at home.

I'd never use Google even if it were the only option, I'd just not connect to the net, it's not that big a deal as long as I have my home network.
I'd use a couple of cans and a string over Google. :)

Since I doubt most of us can get more than one provider I find this thread a bit useless. But, since at least one of them is available for my home and I have it I can say it has been great thus far. If you can get any of them then do so. Stop relying on 100 year old technology (UTP).

I have verizon gigabit. My biggest gripe other than the annoying kid on the commercials, is their lack of communication. You're a communication company and you can't update outages on you app/website.

So the other day it goes out at 1am. I check the app and it says everything is fine. Downdector is still to early to report. I go on their chat to get an update. I'm going to start a ticket if it's my problem. So they never answer chat for 3 hours. I left in on and it woke me up when they did answer.

Downdetector starts to report it down.

I called their repair line an the tech says it was down and I asked why he couldn't report it. He could not answer.

My assumption is if they report it they have to add it to their downtime statistics and they don't want to do that.

They are a dishonest company.

Google may be better? I'm willing to try.

ATT is on my shitlist for $300 worth of roaming charges back in the 90s.

ATT, roaming charges, in the 1990's? You are talking about the legacy AT&T Wireless, which was literally sold to Cingular. And when SBC acquired AT&T Long Distance and BellSouth they changed their name from SBC to AT&T, and Cingular to AT&T Wireless. But that is one way to hold a grudge. Personally, I am not sure what the pricing, throughput and caps are for the other Gbit providers. I know my AT&T Gbit is $80/month, free install and without caps. My non-VPN is about 945/980 Mbps. I've not experienced an outage, but that could be my ignorance.

I wish I had any choice , I am captive to my DSL from Centurylink. It has taken about 10 years to grow into something relatively stable.
