if you had a 10gbit net connection to your home...

just for fun, if someone gave you a free 10gbit net connection to your home, how would you setup your system to maximize it? also eliminate bottlenecks (or try to) with todays off-the-shelf hardware.

I was bored so i looked around and found:

Fiber Optic Cable, LC/LC, Multi Mode, Duplex - 3 meter (62.5/125 Type) ~$20

Intel 10 GbE XF SR Server Adapter ~$2000

8GB(4 x 2GB) ~$130

have it all setup on a normal quad-core system. load xp or some linux-distro with uTorrent setup for 1000 simultaneous connections. then load a 4GB DVD into ram and set it to superseed mode then let it rip!

i know it probably aint easy like this, but im just curious if it could be done, any experts know what kind of equipment you'd need on your home end? id guess you'd probably need some massive expensive cisco switch if you wanted to share this connection.

lol i run 10,000 simultaneous connections with my 10mb cable. that depends on your router more then the amount of bandwidth you have.
If i had 10Gb/s i would setup a few racks. One full of servers for me, 1 full of servers for games servers to rent to people. another for shared webhosting. then a few empty racks for colo. that way you could make money too.
Full redundant network and power. I would run fiber to each racks switch.
It would be even better if it have with a few Class C's but a class B would be icing on the cake.

somthing like 38 1U supermicros. saving room in the 42U rack for a switch and patch panel.

ugh, dreams

Same type of router i use now. Mikrotik, Running on some quad core system with direct fiber to it. I have one based on just a 2.6 P4 and it can route up to about 7Gb/s, the hardware that is. I only have a 10/100 for wan and a 10/100/1000 for lan. But i have done tests and the hardware could do about 7Gb/s
its really more power then i need, i could have put this on a 600mhz celeron and it would handle what i do. But i had the 2.6 P4 laying around so why not.
It also has 1gb of ram and only uses like 30mb of it.

oh you asked that as in what router i use because i run 10,000 bit torrent connections not as "what WOULD i use as the router"

Yeah, i use a mikrotik router
