If you had ~$300.00 for a new motherboard/processor combo to Overclock...

what would you choose? Ive been out of the loop for a LONG time now heh

My current two PC's are:

SL2W8 (if you remember that one) @ 527mhz
Abit BH6
256 megs
TNT 2 Ultra

Celeron 366@550
Abit BX6 R.2
256 megs
TNT 2 Ultra

Im probably gonna dump the celeron and get a new board/cpu in that case (supermicro something or other.. the big one that was once so popular) Cooling is not a problem, I have 10 fans in the case, and custom made peltiers, heatsinks, all kinds of crap from when I was really into this stuff :)

I think I heard the celeron 533EB were good... I think thats the one I heard of...

why the hell dump that mobo?

i got a bh6 [even older then your mobo] thats running a celeron633@950 that way you can buy a ge-force2 or something

now that one would REALLY kick more ass then a new mobo with a slower celery

SL2W8? Oh yes... nothing like a 50% OC at default voltage ;). Got two across the room in my dual PII setup and one waiting to be built.

Anyway... about your question...
For $300, I would go for:
$111 MSI K7T Pro2a
$146 Athlon TBird 900MHz
$257 + S/H

-or-

$112 Asus CUSL2
$148 PIII 700E
$260 + S/H

You can probably get farther in terms of OC for the first one.... oh wait... the OC of the first would get it to the speed of the second. Not to be sarcastic. Both setups should be more than adequate. Its just the AMD CPUs can get over 1GHz easier than the PIIIs.

hmm... that just shows how far out of the loop I am... hell if my bx6 r2 will run a celery @ 900mhz Im all for that! I wouldnt mind using the extra cash to swap out the TNT2 Ultra for a GEForce
