just a little over. You can prob. get a 1700+ and save a little money, but it looks like a good system to me.

I dont think you should go with the 1900+ the price/performance isnt worth it. The 1700+ is a much better value, but maybe you want to go for the 1800+.

If i were jobless & had to watch my coins,, then i'd go to Comp USA

CompUSA Compaq CPU 5310 Presario with Celeron 1.2GHz processor
256MB memory, 40GB hard disk, DVD-ROM, CDRW,
56k modem, 10/100 ethernet

$749.97

Free Envision EN710 17" Monitor after $70 Mfr, $70 CompUSA mail in rebates

That's a lot of puter for $750 & i believe that the 1.2 celery has the P-3 Tulatin core which should run with THUNDERBIRDS [maybe] but not ATHLON XP... Forget the p=4 it is a dog from tests iv'e seen, for the money,,

BUT IF Your Gonna Build & Know How !!!!!!!!
A.M.D. 1900+ KICKS ASS ALL OVER THE PLACE [makes p-4 look !! duh !!]

fastest processor requires an 850 w/ RDRAM 🙂
and how can you stick a radeon LE on that
at least GF3 Ti200 - Ti 500 or Radeon 8500

an athlon xp 1700 or 1600 is where i would go 1800 and 1900 are overpriced IMO
while the 1700/1600 are the sweet spot price/performancewise

i would go with ANTEC 1040B $140
Epox 8kha+ $100
512 DDR crucial $100
ATI RADEON 8500DV staples deal in hot deals forum $280
SB Audigy $70
any NIC $15
liteon 24 x CDRW $80
liteon 16x DVD $60
maxtor 740 DX 40 GB $90
athlon xp 1700 $140
alpha pal 8045 heatsink $35

$1100 so far

spend the rest of the money on a monitor you can get a decent NEC/Samsung/KDS for 150 and wait for one of the FREE deals on a scanner/ printer unless you need a HQ printer + scanner

i have a similar setup and luv it

i really wouldnt pay a lot for a scanner unless you need it i have on and it rarely gets used ;
had it for a year and used it lets say 3 times

It is for fun.

I want to see if I can get a 2.8 GHz computer and stay within his budget. I failed miserably because I forgot the hard drive.
