If you had 100Mbps to play with what would you do?

Have you looked at Cogent's network map and private peering points? There is a reason that Level3 wanted to put the hurt on them, and that is because they have a good network (NOT a great network, just good) at a ridiculous price point. Their bandwidth is considerably better than a lot of smaller guys, and IMO is better than a lot of other big names like Broadwing, Global Crossing, Time Warner, etc.

I do realize that their network used to really suck, though, but it has become *much* better.

i think he's either a network engineer or a systems engineer...he works with the network and what he said his boss said was that their isp gave them 1000Mbps for the price that they were already paying so they have like twice as much as they had in the past...but like the poster below..."sounds like a test"...but only time will tell :D

does he have a datacenter too? if so, see if the boss would let you set up a rack, get yourself some cheap ass (but extremely nice) http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/x2100/ with a couple of 250gig drives in raid 1 and set yourself up a nice hosting business. Better yet host rentable game servers, it's a big market. If you include Teamspeak and Ventrilo hosting you could make a comstock lode.

You could also offer VLS's (virtual linux servers)

I agree with the hosting -- web or shells to be used for irc type things (eggdrops, psybnc).
