What would you get? I'm clueless when it comes to monitors and I would like to get a new one. I would prefer to get a flatscreen but I haven't seen too many 21 inch out there. I figure 21 inch would be the way to go. Any suggestions?

Actually i'd try to get a refurbished sony f500r. Better than even the g500 but new the price is about 1750 thouhg you could prabably find it for 1500. REfurbished you should be able to find one for about a grand. IF new is your thing g500 is 100% the way to go.

I was planning to get the Sony, but saw for myself the 2 lines running horizontal across the monitor. Since I'm a programmer that usually stares at a white screen, I'll be able to see it. It definitely is a great monitor, but if you don't mind the 2 lines don't hesitate to get it.

...well, I'm still looking for a 21".

btw, that apple flat screen costs like $5000. Go figure.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm gonna have to find somewhere that carries a G500 so I can see if the lines would bother me or not. The FLATRON 915FT PLUS looks nice but its only a 19 inch.

the apple cinema display is ONLY soled w/ a G400 system...last i checked...
so u can get that monitor but it'll cost u the price of a g400 system, but u do get the g400 system for free then...what a bargain.

flatscreens are nice but way overpriced...i woudlnt' get one for another 5 years...or will it take longer for those goddamn things to come down in price...i'd go for a flat aperature grill 21"
i've noticed soem 22" CRTs w/ a viewable screen size the same size as 21" CRTs...retarded...don't buy such monitors, unless u like gettign bulky/heavy packages for no reason.

I enjoy samsung monitors...but take my word for it, becausse i don't have one, nor have i ever used one...but the 900NF (19") is a mere $630CDN and the pictures of it look sweet...now if i could only get my hands on that kinda money...

At first you'll probably hate those 2 horizontal lines on any trinitron monitor, but give your eyes a few weeks and you will get used to them and you'll forget they were even there, even if you stare at a white screen 8 hours a day.

Just make a "trial" purchase from a local computer store and most of them give a no questions asked 30 day full refund. Put that sucker in front of you for a month and see if those lines bother you any.

If they do bother you then return it and try another monitor.

EDIT: spelling errors

hanpan -

I really hate that word REFURBISHED.

I got a refurbished monitor just a year ago and on the 28th day of my 30 day refurbished warranty my CRT Tube blew up, that's right it was smokin'. Anyways I was lucky enough to get my money back but never again will I purchase a reburbished monitor, expecially not when you are going to spend atleast a grand.

When you are going to spend that much money, getting a good 3 or 5 year warranty is VERY important.

But no doubt the f500r is one heck of a monitor, but for your price range G500 is the way to go(the only way).

SGI 1600SW. I got mine for $995 from SGIDirect on Eb@y. I don't know when they'll have their next auction, but they are actually SGI themselves and they ship the monitor via courier.

The 1600SW is the most beautiful I have seen. Excellent color, really sharp, wide viewing angle. It's beautiful.

The multilink adapter can take VGA, DVI, and DFP input. Make sure you have an nVidia or Matrox card with digital out though for this.

you can also get it with a 3dlabs CAD card too.

The one i'd get would be the KDS AV-21tf without a hesitation. Only $700 or less.

man

I'd save my money and buy the samsung 955SL for around $350.

I just got one that's why I say it. But for me the Trinitron tubes really don't do it. I got a KDS Avitron at work and the whole monitor drives me crazy. i hate the flicker and that you can see the individual pixels.

you can't go wrong with the i20a from iiyama. its a 22" AG monitor. Sony;s have weird geometry problems at high resolutions. i don't like them. overpriced too.

Samsung 1200NF. I've had good luck with my 700NF, and my uncles 1200NF is gorgeous. I'll save the rest of the money for something else.. :)

Mitsubishi 2040u or (after much discussion with LXi) the Samsung 1200NF
