if you get a haircut that you are not content with, do you still pay?

When I was younger I really didn't care what kind of haircut I had or how I looked

In college, sometimes I got decent haircuts. Somedays, the "barber" aka cosmetolgist messes it up REAL bad. I never really had a haircut which I loved
I'm critical with my appearance and I have a weird head shape. There's only a certain length and cut that looks good with my face. Skilled barbers have even told me I would be really ugly with really short hair but not everyone cutting hair has the proper training
There were way too many incidents where I pay $5-$20 for a haircut and just come out looking retarded. I used to cut my own hair but the clipper died. I need to get back to cutting my own hair
I wish I can just find someone that I can trust and just go to the same person everytime. I'm really F'in sick of paying money for haircuts that just kills my confidence.
A good haircut can brighten my day and bring my confidence to a new level... a bad haircut just kills it

Of course I pay. Found a good hairstylist through my friend, I'm loving my hair right now. I paid $23 and gave the guy a $5 tip - $28 for a lavish haircut once every two months is OK with me.

Because sometimes the only way to fix a bad haircut is to let it grow back out first.

for instance, just couple days ago, she started with the top of my hair. I told her specficially what I wanted and even showed her a picture on my ID.
I can't really see what she's doing with the top of my hair.. just trimming it up.
I figured, if she faded the sides up, it may look good so I gave her the benefit of the doubt.
Long story short, I should've taken the trimmers from her and cut it my damn self

if you are asian you must go to a female asian for hair cuts. male white barbers are the worst offenders when it comes to cutting asian hair.

*shrug*

My white male hale stylist does just fine. I just want it shorter, then I do what I please with my bottle of mousse.

Anyone else see a connection. ;):p

And I say: Italian male barbers for the shorter cuts, skilled, non-bubblegum chewing white female stylists for the longer ones.

Check out Supercuts. Seriously. $13.50 + Tip gets me a good, consistent haircut. Try every girl in your local Supercuts and use the process of elimination until you find the best one. Tell them exactly what you want.

I pay $11 at Cost Cutters. But I just have a very simple, middle part type haircut. Anyone could do it.

In fact, have to go in tomorrow since it's getting too long.

I think the real question is why you have had so many haircuts you weren't happy with. Certainly all those people can't be rotten barbers. It's strange that no one will cut your hair the way you want.

Is it possible you're not doing a good job of explaining exactly what you want? I mean, if all those people aren't able to cut hair the way the customer wants, how could they still make it in that business?

And to the original question, I think you have to pay no matter what. They are charging for a haircut, not a haircut you will like. :p

Are you black? The only time I went to a black barber I walked out with some weird Eminem crossed with Vanilla Ice hair cut. A black person that can cut white people hair well is a rare find - and vice versa.

get some good clippers and a set of clipper guards . I do a size four for the sides/back and a seven for the top . That works for me . Four is short for the sides , you might want to start with a much larger guard .

You gotta find someone you like and stick with them. I've used the same guy at the $3.75 place down the road for 1.5 years now and I will continue going there. There's like 11 barbers in there but I always ask for him by name and know his schedule. The guy looks middle eastern... I don't care as long as he keeps doing a good job.
