Exactly what I did do. I was still in contact with him at the time, tried to pull him out of the lifestyle he had now, couldn't do it, and just had to move on with my own life.

I also learned that she's still living at home, her parents who were originally furious at her for it, and even hit her..now just accept it.

I'm guessing she's kind of FUBAR isn't she?

Shallow people here.
So, you base your friends on what they do, not who they are?
I wouldnt care if my old friend was the President, had killed the President, did drugs or ran the Columbian Drug Cartel.
Their my FRIEND. The whole point of friends is to overlook faults they may have.
Course, after some of the replies here, no wonder some ATOT'ers dont have friends, or know what they are. Keep livin behi9nd a monitor, maybe you wont have to face real life then eh?

If it's something more serious than pot, then you can worry. Otherwise, she just needs to stop being lazy.

I'd try to help. If there is no light at the end of the tunnel, just leave her and let her do what she wants with her life.

Your friend is now a psycho axe murderer. Who hates people with brown hair (you have brown hair). Also hates people who come from country X (Hey... guess what). Are you still their friend or do you say "fvck it, I'm done with this person." In the end, eventually you rid yourself of the worthless pieces of drivel in your life. You try to stay their friend until you can't handle it anymore. Anything after that and you are only hurting yourself being around them.

Course, after some of the replies here, no wonder some of the ATOT'ers still consider their friends to be Osama and all the other terrorists out there... they were good people back years ago! Keep livin behi9nd a monitor, maybe you wont have to face real life then eh?

Don't banish him/her but definitely keep them at arm's length. They might try to rip you off to get a fix, even if they are your friend, just don't give them the opportunity. Move on with your own life and hope that they get their head out of their a$$ but don't hold your breath (esp. if its heroin). Tell them you believe they're spiraling around the drain and don't accept or offer any BS.

Its a real messy bisiness to try to help people out of that kind of thing. When they are ready for help let the pro's do it and offer support at that time.

EDIT: Hey wait a minute your nick is syringer... is one of your old friends being unreasonable about your new habits? Are you planning to tell an old friend about your recent junkie status? C'mon lets keep it real!

Gee, that's funny... I had a friend named Justin back about 5 years ago. He got into intraveneous drugs (heroin and other random needle drugs). I tried my best to get him to stop it as I saw him being slowly detached from his family and friends. I stuck with him for over a year after he started (we'd been friends for 5+ years). Anytime I met up with him afterwards he tried to "borrow" money or get me to join him in a session (I'd be paying for both of us of course, since he introduced us so he got the "finders fee"). When he finally showed up to a party I was at while I was rather drunk and asked me to give head to another of his friends (WTF?!?!) so he could get his fix for the night I finally told him to fsck off. Didn't talk to/see him for 6 months.

Finally I saw him walking down the street... arms/body thin as an anorexiac, didn't even know who I was or where he was at the time. When I finally convinced him that I was one of his old friends he told me that he was shacking up with his drug dealer in some random town, and he had turned to begging (oh BTW did I have any cash I could "loan" him until his job started). FSCK NO I didn't have anything for him. Turns out all the friends he'd had that "stayed" with him were just as much as drug addicts as him. All living in the same house, all either selling or begging for a living.

Do I regret cutting the dead weight loose? Hell no. If I hadn't I'd be in the same place he is right now. Sometimes you have to say "fsck it, I tried my best, and they just don't want to help themselves"

As for me using your argument against you, why don't YOU try turning off the computer and looking up from your oh-so-great life where noone ever slips over the line. In the end, there are winners and losers, and if you choose to associate with the losers you will eventually be one of them, no matter how much you try to resist.

MY peachy life?
HA!
Try this on for size....
My best frtiend (We've been together since diapers) is so hooked on crack he cant go an hour without smokin a foiley. Some of my other friends sell for him. One big happy drug fest for them. I go see them every so often, its a good time, I wish they would quit.
But I'll never tell them to fvck off. They dont mooch from me either though. If they did, I'd give'm 5, 10 or 20 bucks. And move on. There my friends, and I never turn my back on my friend. Yeah, my life IS good. I worked goddamned hard for that too (Someone like you wouldnt understand how damned hard either)
So whats 10 bucks to me? Nothing. LIterally. Ok, 1 less drink at the bar. Big deal. And if it makes my friends day a bit easier when there beggin for money, I feel a little better.
Yeah, they have my sympathy. But I also dont say FVCK OFF like some other assholes around here. Sometimes the decisions we make take us to places out of our control. And if 10 bucks helps'm out a bit, hey, i got 10 bucks for my friends.

But, tot he givin head to some dude.... Yeah, THATS goin a bit too far. He woulda almost earned himself an asswhippin for askin that.....
