If you don't game while waiting for next fastest video card is there a problem using integrated gpu?

Lets say you want to sell your GTX 1080 or GTX 1080ti before the latest and greatest comes out. Is there any problem of using integrated graphics when using basic computer things? Like your browser, email, and watching youtube videos?

These should all work fine even in 4k with integrated graphics right ?

I don't have any issues doing normal desktop stuff like surfing, watching videos, etc with the integrated graphics on my 8700k. However, it does always resize any open windows when the monitor goes to sleep, which is annoying. I've Googled it, and apparently this issue doesn't affect everyone, but the only solution is to hope for a driver fix. ...which hasn't come for me yet...

If you aren't gaming (or doing something similarly demanding), why do you need a high-end graphics card?

Maybe this is a 'how other people game' situation that hasn't occurred to me, but when I'm not playing a particularly demanding game on my PC, then I'm playing some other game that is still demanding enough to warrant something better than integrated graphics. Aren't you, @pcslookout ?

Right now I'm playing XCOM Enemy Within again. Even something as old as Kotor1/2 doesn't run well on low-end graphics (at least not on the low-end graphics system I tried it on).

I have an i5 2400 (3.1ghz sandy bridge) garage PC. I have an old 8800GT but I have been using the integrated graphics on it for everything but games. Never installed the 8800GT because I think it's a bit old and missing key features that would justify the extra power draw. Works well for what it is.

Just running a 4K display is no problem for anything reasonably recent.

Unless you are gaming, you rarely need anything more than the recent IGPs or APUs.

You can get away with an iGPU. I love fast iGPU's for exactly this reason. My old Ivy HD 4000 graphics is still great for 4k videos and plays a lot of DX9 games fine. My desktop iGPU is great for 4k DX9 games.

For example Supreme Commander FA is on sale for $3. I bought it for my friends and we had a blast. Everyone was on a slow iGPU.

Question:..
Does enabling IGPU effect your overclocks and load temps?
(ie: is it generally recommended to back of your overclock a bit when enabling the IGPU?)

I'm not sure how it is on newer CPUs, but on Sandy Bridge the full load CPU turbo was lower with the IGP in use and I could notice some video performance issues under heavy CPU load conditions that didn't happen when using a dGPU

Not for basic computer uses. If you stress the IGP with a game, yeah it's going to affect the CPU temps and clocks.
