If you could take back and change one pivotal decision what would it be? Please describe the circumstances and back story to your decision so that we may learn from one anothers mistakes.

Getting married.

SHould have waited even though we were having a baby together. Now I split time with my son who is my entire world and the only source of true happiness I have right now. I spend my off days waiting to pick him up, trying to sell the house I bought for us and trying to figure out a way to move on.

my student loans are about $20k, $163 a month but the minimum payments on my CCs total is $735 and that's just to pay them off in 65 months, $1004 to pay them off in 3 years. oh well, i figure i can knock them out in 2 years.

Bought a house in Omaha, NE at the peak of the housing boom and ended up selling for close to a 15k loss the next year(most of which was realtor fees) when my wife took a job in a different state.

We should have rented. Shoulda coulda woulda.

I would have gotten the soup instead of salad. I still lay awake at night wondering about the soup that got away.

I've paid off large debts over time and you get older and the debts fritter away faster than you expect. The paying off debt part is great - the getting old part is so/so.

I went to Northeastern. They basically took away my financial aid right before my third year. They said that "funding was low". It was fun explaining to my parents why i needed them to cosign for a $20k loan just for one year. It was that or do not go to college. I tried Umass Lowell, but they said that it was too late for me to transfer. Oh well....

Don't always make the safer choice. Sometimes the (much) more risky option is worth it in the long run.

oh well you got the degree now (BSEE, right?) i'm sure you'll get a good return over your lifetime and get them paid down soon.

I am still waiting for my 90K payout to payoff loans....but yeah, i have no regrets about doing what i did besides having this delay my decision to have a kid and get married.

When my older brother died I should not have left college and moved home. My mother was devastated and didn't like the idea of me driving home from college every couple of weeks (my brother died in a car accident). Staying in college and staying away from home would probably have been the better decision to make.

However, I can't complain about how life ended up except that now I'm taking classes after work to finish that degree I never got back then :)

2nd option: I'd definitely not have gotten married
