If you could send 5 games back in time to yourself...

...As a kid in elementary school. What would they be and why?
Obviously it would be necessary to send only games for the systems you had during that period unless you just want to reveal what the future lies in gaming.

I don't get it, so basically the question is "what game I wish I had played when I was in elementary school but I didn't have it at the time?". Since I was in elementary school around 1977, not much to choose from :)

I had a Genesis in elementary school, so...
-Gunstar Heroes
-Zombies ate my Neighbors
-Shinobi III
-Phantasy Star IV
-Rocket Knight Adventures

Honorable mentions
-Shining Force II
-Toejam & Earl
-Michael Jackson's Moonwalker
-Ristar

These are all games I never owned at the time, or never recall renting.

Uhh...yeah, I don't know about this either. I don't know of anything that I missed out on during its time, only to pick it up later. I might have sent myself the N64 Zelda games, only because I never played them then, and by the time I got around to trying Ocarina of Time, it was so dated that I didn't like it. I don't know if I'd have liked it, but I would be interested to see what I would have thought.

That fitness game for NES. Then I'd sell it on ebay for a fortune a few years later when the internet gets invented.

So this is: "What games would have been cool to have a little bit early?"

Super Mario Bros. 3
SNES with Super Mario World, Zelda 3, and Donkey Kong Country.
N64 with Super Mario 64

I like your thinking, though I'd have Chrono Trigger instead of DKC.

Do you mean send 5 modern games back to when I was in elementary. I assume you're looking for answers of how we might be blown away seeing todays games/graphics back then or something like that.

i had SMB3 early, but it was the Japanese version! My friends used to come over and play it a few months before it came out in the US

No, the OP specifically said for the systems you had at that time... so I really have no idea why the OP exists at all TBH

OP's question was easy. You people are making it out to be too difficult.

I remember when I first saw Doom I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It looks like hell now.

So in conclusion I would basically send back:
Far Cry 4
Gta V

Pretty much anything huge with excellent graphics. GTA V would have made me question my sanity if I had seen it 20 years ago. Imagine what we'll have 20 years from now. SOmething like GTA will have physics for everything; everything would be destroyable, all buildings enterable, and probably infinite in size as a program builds on the fly. I could see it being all of the US, constructed by software that combines GPS, google street view, etc. to construct an entirely playable nation.

Except the OP said, "[o]bviously it would be necessary to send only games for the systems you had during that period." So, you'd be sending back boxes and discs that couldn't be used, though you could show off screenshots from in-game things, I guess.

Haha, okay I have no idea what the point the OP is trying to make then. :awe:

The games I wanted to play back then I played.

I would have went crazy over Terraria and Minecraft as a kid, so those would be at the top of the list. Wow probably would have destroyed my middle-school self, so I probably wouldn't send that.

This would have been PONG or at the very least Intellivision.

But I had all the ones I wanted.

Snafu
Tron: Deadly Discs
Math Fun
AD&D Cloudy Moutain
AD&D Treasure of Tarmin

Somebody didn't read the rules. That makes me a sad panda. :(

OP said it has to be a game for a system you owned at the time. Any good titles you missed out playing, but discovered later. Far Cry 4 isn't going to run on a mid-90s Pentium. ;)

Yeah, I didn't miss anything at the time. I think terraria would have run on an older PC.... maybe?

I kind of wish I could send my younger self Tetris so that I could invent it first. It's one of those rare games that could've been written much sooner with earlier computers if someone had just had the idea.

That's all it takes, isn't it. Same could be said for Minecraft or Candy Crush.

In the case of the latter, it happened. There were so many variants of Candy Crush (like the seemingly endless Bejeweled releases) before that thing came out. Shoot, wasn't it alleged to have been ripped off from another candy-based Facebook game?
